Tap @ the brewery. This was an offbeat but wonderful dunkelweizen. Pours that wonderful deep cloudy brown color we all know so well with a smallish (for the style) brown head. Aroma is clove, banana, and a hint of black licorice. Taste is the same, with the licorice really coming out in the aftertaste. Sam Adams has done it again. Slightly cloudy dark amber body with a thin beige head. Wonderful aroma of banana and nuts, like freshly baked banana bread. Surprisingly thick mouthfeel. Pours a hazy Copper/Light Brown with a thick tan head. The aroma has bananas, cloves and some wheat. Flavor is much like the aroma, with some fruity malts and spices. Has a moderate finish and leaves a banana taste.

Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joe’s this beer poured a caramel-brown color with a large foamy cream colored head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was light banana, clove, a touch of citrus and moderate bread. The aroma was bitter and bready with notes of caramel, clove, a touch of banana, tart citrus and nut. On tap: The aroma consists of banana, bubblegum, light caramel, and a touch of roast. It’s a hazy brownish-orange with a small off-white head that quickly settles to a thin film. The flavor starts with moderate banana, caramel, and a touch of chocolate. The finish has a light wheaty tanginess and a touch of roast. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A: The beer pours a hazy brown color with a finger of off-white head.
S: Strong banana aromas as well as toasted malts and bread. A nice bit of toffee as well as some subtle clove aromas. There is a bit of wheat character to it as well as some yeast.
T: Less banana than on the nose, but still enough to taste it. Quite a bit more reliant on the toasted malt and bread flavors. A nice bit of toffee and caramel with only a mild clove flavor. Maybe even a hint of vanilla.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
