COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

Pour from a 12oz can - fall canned beers collection. Clear medium brown brew with tan head. Very engaging aroma of fruit, banana, clove, coriander - very much in the wit / wheat family. Taste is mildly sweet up front with rich fruity notes, some tartness with clove, banana and fruit. Finishes with a sour / tart fruit taste, though weakens somewhat at the very end where I would look for a flourish of taste. Palate is average verging on thin.

Sweet, spicy, bready. Taste kinda like a Christmas season beer a so seems a little early.

Taste: crisp, spiced malt, dark bread, wheat, hint of sweet. Same with the nose. Copper hue, slight haze, big foamy head some lace. Full body. Would pair excellent with brats.

From old tasting notes. Labeled as "Samuel Adams Dark Wheat". Translucent reddish brown color. Tan head. Fragrant coffeeish aroma. Spicy chocolate malt flavor. Bittersweet hop finish. Uncharacteristic of the style, yet tasty.

decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - AUG 30, 2016
Hazed amber pour with light tan head. Aroma is dried fruit, molasses, and nutmeg. Flavor is sweet brown sugar start with a lite dry finish. Jus a tad fizzy but a pretty nice beer

BelgianBeerGal (4158) - Panama City, Florida, USA - JAN 2, 2016
Bottle from a multi-pack. Clear chestnut color with a bubbly tan head that lasts quite awhile. Big banana in the aroma with some sweet caramel. Flavor is slightly sweet plantains with cloves but a little muddled overall. Meh.

ttoadee (1588) - Austin, Texas, USA - NOV 26, 2015
Light brown pour, 2 fingers off white. Nose is esters & yeast. Sweet. Middle is bubblegum and dark wheat, roasted grain. Finish is bittersweet, yeasty. Little flat.

IslandHaole (1299) - Misawa, JAPAN - OCT 11, 2015
Caramel, Toffee, biscuits, light floral & spice. Clear orange with a foamy tan head. Certainly has the right yeast as the banana/clove flavor of typical Weizens/Wits is the dominant flavor. Mouthfeel is appropriate for the style. Not a bad effort by SA.

3.6
Lemke10 (995) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 10, 2015
This pours a medium brown color with a slight head. The aroma is slightly malty. The taste has some sour elements to it mixed with clove, spices, and fruits. The taste is rather interesting from a style you don’t see too many people attempt. A well made dark wheat beer!

3.2
HoppyScallywag (339) - Butler, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 6, 2015
Banana and clove pop out on this right away. Almost like tasting a piece of banana bread through your nose and throat without actually chewing it. If it's a little too quickly off the palate but it's pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
