12 fl oz. Pours deep brown with light orange/red hue and a light brown head. Aroma is slight roasted and with a dried fruity note. Liqourice flavoured, dry with bitterhops breaking the liqourice heavy flavour. Dry finish. Ungstrup (37862) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - NOV 15, 2006
A dark red-brown beer with a thick brown head. The aroma is sweet with light roasted notes. The flavor is sweet and very roasted as well as malty, but also with a acidity from the roasted malt is lingering in the background. I find it boring - it needs more punch. omhper (25243) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - DEC 19, 2007
UPDATED: JAN 23, 2008 Bottled. Dark brown, rich h ead. Aroma of cocoa and licoirce. Sweet with burnt malt and plenty of salty licorice. Boldly malty with some molasses. Salty licorice domiante the finish. A bit brash, but interesting. Papsoe (25062) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 22, 2007
(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of yespr. Pours a slightly hazy light brown with an orange hue and a dense, creamy, beige head. Distinct aroma of roasted malt and licorice. Medium body with burned and slightly ashy malt notes and again these very distinct licorice flavours - almost salty - before a fairly bitter finish. 180807 madmitch76 (24980) - , Essex, ENGLAND - APR 29, 2012

BBE Oct 06. Opaque dark brown beer. Crisp palate. Lots of bitter toffee and molasses and unsweet licorice. Finishes crisp with some carbonated bite and more unsweet licorice. Another unusual beer in the Patriot collection. Very drinkable and rich.
Bottle, 10 months past BB date. Very phenolic aroma. Very dark brown colour with a red shine. Very small light brown head. The flavour is also very phenolic and has lots of raw liquorice. Late liquorice aftertaste. I seem to be alone in tasting the phenol, but it is nevertheless horrible to me. bhensonb (15336) - Woodland, California, USA - JUL 16, 2006
Smoky aroma, more hints of chocolate than anything else. Dark brown color, hints of red in strong light, tiny bubbles. Tan head which persissts. Definite licorice/anise in the start. It lingers, but some bitter comes forth to finish. Maybe some herbs. Don’t know what happened to the hints of chocolate. djd07 (15067) - Houston, Texas, USA - JAN 31, 2016
Bottle. Pours a clear brown with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is dark fruit and cardboard. Very oxidized, wood, raisin, nah. Ratman197 (14952) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - JUL 10, 2006
Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a long lasting amber head. Aromas of licorice, smoke, roasted malt and some bitter chocolate. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of burnt wood, licorice, a hint of stale coffee and some bitter chocolate with a smooth lingering bitter finish. DSG (14905) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - FEB 12, 2016
