4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I liked this far more than I expected to, given my general dislike of barley wines. Appearance was dark amber, very clear, but viscous enough to trap the bubbles; small tan head, good lacing. Nose had notes of citrus; did they use American hops? Great full palate. Taste of citrus, oak, fruit, hops, malts. Only minus is the high alcohol content, which leaves me quite incapable of an appropriately detailed review.
Amber color with a fairly dense dark cream colored head. Aromas of oak, butter, light bourbon, toasted malt and hint of alcohol. Pale malt, honey, toasted malt and nut in the front. Mild has some toffee and spicy hops. Alcohol is only really showing itself but the small fire starting in my stomach. A bit hot right now, but this should mellow out really nicely in a short period of time. Certainly one of the better barleywines I have had in some time. 9/11

Straight out the bottle It sucked. It was sickeningly sweet smelling, appallingly sweet tasting with a slight battery acid burn at the end. tia (2228) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - DEC 26, 2015
Bottle (probably been in the fridge three years). Caramel color with foamy oatmeal head. Smells really sweet and boozy. Tastes really sweet. It dropped a bomb on me, baby, a malt bomb on me. tysongillmore (362) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 21, 2015
I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark amber color with a dense, foamy white head. Sudsy lacing along the glass. Aroma has pineapple, grapefruit, shoe polish and resin. Flavor is rich with sweetness and hoppy booze notes. Warped_Silver (157) - Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 10, 2014
Bottle is 1 year old. Pours deep amber/brown with 1 finger head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of bubblegum, aged fruit, booze, cotton candy. High carbonation for style. Taste of hop bitterness, caramel, pecans, and oak. Medium body. Finish with mild booze and subtle hop bitterness. Overall, decent, not amazing due to harshness

Rated based on notes taken 25 Feb 2014 -- The oak comes through in a great way. A great sipping beer that has a nice sweet flavor up front that blossoms into a complex end. damzz (516) - Massachusetts, USA - NOV 21, 2014

22oz bottle -
One of the few whiffs from Samuel Adams. I like the idea of doing a barleywine outside the proveribal "box", but it just doesn’t work very well. Aroma is light vanilla, rock-candy, light oak and some oxidized/tropical-fruit combo. Taste has a strange banana/mango angle with a strong prescence of plastic. Honey, burnt sugar and alcohol also present. Seemed like a Belgian ale combined with a barleywine and it took the lesser qualities of each style to make this beer.
