COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Grumpy Monk is a Belgian IPA. The long held brewing traditions of Belgian monks aren’t meant to be broken. Yet, to the monk’s dismay, the distinctive character of Belgian yeast with its spicy clove and fruit notes can be reimagined when combined with the brazen hop character of an IPA. These hops impart a citrusy, piney, and earthy flavor that’s balanced by a roasted malt sweetness for a complex and playful brew.

More Belgian than IPA by a lot. Low aroma and straightforward taste/palate. But really drinkable and of in the mood for Belgian but traditionally an IPA drinker it's a good go-to. Like a better Leffe. Bottle in variety pack in SoCal. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A nice yeasty IPA with lots of classic piney hoppiness, fruity esters, and a solid malt backbone. Very good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Soft banana spice aroma. Clear amber body capped with a two fingered white head. The bitter bite a balanced with smooth malt. As advertised it’s alike a cross between and IPA and Belgian ale.

a brew that starts out beery with some toffee and malt and then features the Belgian spice line and banana flavors. i like that approach. the palate is smooth and vibrant. like a golden with a bit of caramel. the beer doesnt have to hit you over the head. good malt aroma. i didnt get the overwhelming hop character.

Mer. Bottle from well formed 12 pack of sammies ipas. I am torn. I like ipas and i like belgians ales. this here critter does have elements of both, but its kind of like wearing two shoes of separate sizes that dont at all match. You may be able to walk. but in the end you look like a doofus. One or the other please.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2016 Pours a clear copper with huge frothy head. Aroma is malty bananas. Taste follows the aroma with some hop zest. For Belgium beer it?s very good. It has a medium mouth feel. For a Belgian beer this is one of the better ones I?ve ever tried

Bottle. Clear amber body, off-white head. Belgian yeast spice aroma. Clove, light mustiness, toasted grain, pine, citrus. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Yeah, it’s an IPA with Belgian yeast. Taste of clove, banana, pine. Light lingering bitterness.
