On tap at Doyle’s, Boston. A clear, dark amber colored beer with a small, beige head. The aroma is malty, with dark dried fruits, some alcohol and a bready touch. It’s full bodied, lightly warming and soft on the palate, quite bitter. Prunes, bread notes, raisins and bitterness in the flavor. Lasting warming, bitter finish. Quite nice this one, but a tad dry I think. 150608 brokensail (16609) - Dublin, California, USA - JUN 12, 2012
Amber in color with a rocky white head. Strong Belgian influence on this one with lots of clove and spice notes. A bit yeasty with some floral and fruity hops, particularly citrus peel. Some banana, too. The flavor is more bitter than expected, but still fairly bready. Citrus peel, pine, and floral notes give a nice hoppy character. Spice and yeast are evident, as is some malt sweetness. bhensonb (15515) - Woodland, California, USA - JUL 9, 2012
Bottle from a multipack from Nugget Market in Davis, CA. Pours clear copper with a slight creamy off-white head. Aroma is spicy/earthy. Med body with creamy carb. There’s Belgian ester (banana) with lots of citrus and resin. Every quaff is a repeat taste sensation. Finishes very Belgian, and more bitter than many of those. Really nice beer. I was confused when I ordered a sample of it on what it was. Even more confused that they call it an IPA.
