3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle: Aroma has the hallmarks of a Belgian beer the clove and coriander, light fruity almost banana like scent. The hops are there too, all citrusy and slightly earthy. Appearance is a rich clear golden with a rocky white head that lingers. Tastes more like a pale ale than an IPA. The belgian yeast really mutes the hoppiness. Body is medium. Texture is soft. I like it, but I just did not know what to make of it.
Growler from Summerhill LCBO. Pours a clear orange/amber colour with average-sized off-white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, tropical fruit, light toast and spice. Flavour is more Belgian than IPA with fruity Belgian yeast, some modest tropical fruit hoppiness, gently toasted graininess and a bit of clove. Average body. Solid. 12 oz bottle from notes. Pours a clear orange amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have pale malts, caramel, some Belgian yeast, light spice, citrus, but some medicinal character distracts. Cajun (534) - Lafayette, Louisiana, USA - JUL 15, 2016
Bottle - Pours amber white head. Spicy, over-ripened fruit, raisins....but with a bite of citrus. Hoppy, but fruity and flavorful. Bananas, cloves... but with that dry smack in the finish. Complex. I really enjoyed this one. oldrtybastrd (5002) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - APR 24, 2016
Pours a clear golden yellow w/fizzy head. Aromas of fruity hops and citrus. Smooth hoppy taste with citrus and pine tail.

May 3rd, 2014 - The joke here is what makes the Monk Grumpy is the empty steiner, but I doubly appreciate the artist’s rendering of the monk, his chin mirroring the brother’s paunch, and a scathing eye looking for something to denounce or complain about. Like the sub-reddit of "Monks pointing at things", this puts me in the mood for a yeasty, tasty and semi-sweet beer. And this Grumpy Monk delivers, in some aspect. The nose is very sweet, with peach and pear juice, and even lemonade, to the extent that the aroma smells like a Belgian ale mixed with a shandy - a monstrosity no doubt concocted at a golf course somewhere on a hot day. The flavor is sweet, too, though not as much as the aroma. And like many beers from Sam Adams, I feel that the carbonation is too aggressive and pushy. It has some malt character and a bit of a hop twang, whereas the yeast ropes in peach and strawberry. But all these flavors feel very out of alignment, the balance very askew and mashed together. coachd (856) - Missouri, USA - MAR 27, 2016
Smells of Belgian yeast with an IPA twist. The taste is more IPA than Belgian but it is a good mix. This deserves a fair rating. Not all macrobrews are horrible.

Clear light Amber color with beige head. Mild banana, yeast and citrus peel. Bitter but has the unusual yeast that IMO, distracts rather than compliments the hops. Not a fan of this mixture of two styles that I enjoy on their own. Aggiebob (1170) - Huntsville, Alabama, USA - FEB 10, 2016
Bottle. Amber with a cream colored head and lacing. Aroma spices, fruitiness and malts. The taste also had some pine in it. A very tasty Belgian ale. puboflyons (3438) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 5, 2016
From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with an expiration date of May 2016. The pour is amber-orange with a modest but lingering off-white head. Lovely aroma of Belgian yeast, Belgian toast, clove, and pepper. Light to almost medium body. Smooth. Decent sweet pale malt taste with a bite of clove and pepper while still being balanced. Easy drinkability.
