Samuel Adams Hazel Brown is a very clear, deep reddish brown ale topped with a dense, off white foam that has outstanding retention and lacing. Caramel, toffee and hazelnut are in the first sniff. There is some roastiness and maybe some grass. Soft, dry and medium bodied, it leaves the tongue a little chalky. This is bursting with hazelnut. It’s not huge or overpowering. The flavors all melt very well. There’s just enough bitterness to avoid seeming sweet at all. This is so smooth and easy. It could be a session ale any time. pumpmaster (1396) - Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA - OCT 19, 2012

Pours an ambery brown color with a light brown head. Smells like a bunch of nuts. And some coffee. Taste is quite nutty as well. Many nuts in this beer.

Poured into my imperial pint nonic (two bottles), colour is deep russet to brown with a half inch of lingering off white head - seriously it just sits there. Aroma is massive amounts of nuttiness, almost like Nutella but with less cocoa and more nut. Tastewise more of the nutella thing, but balanced off with some caramel and a firm hop bite which is woodsy and suggests Fuggles to me. Medium bodied and rather nice, I imagine it would be even better on cask! nearbeer (5457) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 17, 2012
12 oz. Clear, deep copper-brown with a lasting half inch of sticky foam. Nose is roast hazelnut, sweetened cocoa, soured cream and toffee. Flavor is the same rich tasty stuff. Near-medium body is to the sweet side, but balanced by tingly acidity from the roast and a high amount of carbonation. boxofrane (2553) - Spring City, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 15, 2012
Bottle from Mari’s. Pours brown with a finger of off-white head, some bubbles around the sides of the glass. The aroma has nuts, vanilla, some caramel and a little lactose in there. The taste has a nice, soft hazelnut and vanilla pop with a decent brown ale backbone. The finish trails back to the nuts and vanilla again. Pretty decent brew.. aracauna (3616) - Georgia, USA - OCT 13, 2012
Sweet nuttiness. The main problem with this beer is the base brown ale is just ok. b3shine (8937) - Indiana, USA - OCT 13, 2012
Bottle to pint. Looks solid; a transparent brown with light beige head that quickly dissipates into lacing. Smells of hazelnut.Tastes the same with a bit of hops. Average on the palate. Better than I expected.
