Dark brown pour with a thick and creamy off-white head. Aroma is nutty with some caramel. Hazelnut flavor. Thick, oily and with a LOT of caramel. No hint of adjuncts, it tastes clean and natural. This is a fantastic brown ale. tricyclist (1125) - Florida, USA - JAN 15, 2013
10/23/2012 - From notes - Pint pour of hazelnut brownish amber with a two finger off white head. Nose is hazelnut, of course, but also light coffee. Stale water... kinda smooth, no amazing. Flavor is roasted, smooth malt, light coffee notes. More hazelnut, and light sweetness. Light to medium body with mild lacing. Sammer (1119) - Plano, Texas, USA - AUG 17, 2012
Bottle. Taste is cocoa, caramel, malt and coffee. Aroma is out of this world. Nice. vikingguy (1103) - Carver, Minnesota, USA - AUG 27, 2012
Pours a crystal clear reddish brown color with foamy off-white head. Aroma of cocoa and caramel malt. Taste is sweet and nutty...liquid Nutella. Can taste the hazelnut flavor with notes of cocoa and caramel malt. Balanced with some mild bitterness. This has good flavor but not a beer I’d drink everyday.

Bottle pour. Probably my least favorite Sam Adams beer since they usually have good stuff. DrinkEmUpJones (1069) - Georgia, USA - AUG 28, 2013
First off thank you beer snobs for rating a Sam Adams products with a decent overall status. This is a great nut brown beer that unfortunately only comes in a seasonal mix pack. Good clean palate with nice hazelnut flavors. Great for fall but would be nice year around. MarkSachon (1023) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 4, 2013
12 oz bottle from the Fall 2013 sampler case. This is a really mellow and rich brown that deserves high marks for craftsmanship. Let’s hope Sam Adams keeps these types coming. Ericular (1019) - Minnesota, USA - OCT 22, 2013
Pours an excellent deep ruby brown with lasting head and good lacing. Aroma is very good, tons of hazelnuts, caramel, brown sugar, and light holiday spice. Taste is nice as well, with an earthy malt base to the hazelnut flavor. Great beer. yesyouam (1016) - Fairport, New York, USA - OCT 19, 2012
Samuel Adams Hazel Brown is a very clear, deep reddish brown ale topped with a dense, off white foam that has outstanding retention and lacing. Caramel, toffee and hazelnut are in the first sniff. There is some roastiness and maybe some grass. Soft, dry and medium bodied, it leaves the tongue a little chalky. This is bursting with hazelnut. It’s not huge or overpowering. The flavors all melt very well. There’s just enough bitterness to avoid seeming sweet at all. This is so smooth and easy. It could be a session ale any time.
