12 ounce bottle from the fall sampler. Pours a clear chestnut color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of nuts, sweet caramel and a cinnamon-like spice. The taste is nuts, caramel, faint hops. Medium bodied. Decent. wxman (1824) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - AUG 11, 2012
Pours a clear cola brown color with a full rocky antique lace head. Hazel nuts quite noticiable in the aroma along with caramel malts. Taste is sweet roasted and caramel malts, hazelnuts, nutmeg and a butterness that rounds it out nicely. Good effort! JustPlainLogan (58) - Galveston, Texas, USA - OCT 7, 2013
Not my favorite Sam Adams, but I found it to be a good beer to drink with dessert. Drank this while eating a hazelnut biscotti, and the salted caramel and toffee was exactly what the biscotti needed. The only drawbacks to the heavy, heavy caramel taste is the aftertaste. MadRobin (2988) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - OCT 27, 2013
Poured from 12 oz. bottle.
Clear, dark ruby red with a large khaki head and excellent lacing.

From a bottle. Pours dark brown with a creamy beige head and some lacing. Tastes like chocolate, creamy, buttery, hazelnut, with hints of coffee. Low/medium body and carbonation. Smells like sweet, nutty, creamy chocolate.

Modest starting head. Shrinks to ring lace. Clear, brown color.
Smells like burnt molasses with hazelnuts. Lots of toast.
Sweeter taste with a strong deep roast of hazelnuts. A bit sweet. Thin bodied and high in the carbonation. Short aftertaste. Relatively non-descript. beerfest5 (1207) - Cloneen, IRELAND - FEB 17, 2014
12 oz bottle from winter sampler pack. Poured a thin brown into the pint glass, overwhelming aroma of roasted hazelnuts. You better like that taste if your going to try this one. Nice caramel malt smoothness combines with the richness of the hazelnut and makes an enjoyable beer but not a session ale, the flavor becomes cloying and too sweet for having more than one or two. Quite nice too. Very smooth but interesting in shape. NIce aroma and enjoyable at the TV also. pet3rman (375) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 20, 2015
1 year old from the back of my brother-in-laws fridge - here goes nothing: Pours hazy brown with small cream head. Aroma and flavor distinctly nutty with evident caramel and a hint of dates. Body is medium. Finish is mild. Nice brown ale by Sam Adams. Accomplishes what it set out to do, nicely. Pailhead (6541) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - AUG 11, 2012

Bottle: The aroma consists of cocoa, hazelnuts, caramel, and some vanilla. It pours a transparent orangish-brown with a small off-white head that quickly fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with cocoa and caramel. The finish has light-moderate hazelnuts and vanilla extract. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, it’s a little on the sweet side for me.
