Samuel Adams Holiday Porter is a full-flavored porter inspired by the famous drink of Londons Victorian era luggage porters. Brewed with generous portions of Caramel, Munich and Chocolate malt, this hearty porter finishes with traditional English Fuggles and East Kent Goldings. Cheers!

Malty with hoppy afternotes. Noticiable hints of spice along with burnt coffee and chocolate.

"higher level of complexity than many porters, but that alone doesnt make it any better. that said, its a pretty solid, robust porter, true to the style. great for the holidays."

Transfer from BA review on 12-8-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance The beer pours a deep brown colored beer with a huge tan colored head. The head has a great level of retention fading over time as the big bubbles within pop and in the end end leaving a good level of lacing. Smell The aroma is a nice blend of roasted malt, chocolate, sweet caramel and some coffee aromas. Rounding out the smell is a light nut and spice aroma. Taste The taste begins of roasted malt and some chocolate up front. As the taste moves on, a coffee flavor develops more toward the middle of the taste. Along with the coffee is a lighter caramel taste. While these flavors all last, they are joined by some spice flavors more toward the end. Along with the spice, and complimenting them well, are some earthy and herbal hop flavors that when combined with the coffee and chocolate leave a pleasant spiced and roasty flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel The body of the beer is on the creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. The creamier body is great for the roasted and dark flavors as well as for allowing the lighter hop and spice flavors to be detected nicely in the absence of a high carbonation. Overall A nice holiday take on a porter that is very smooth and drinkable with a nice light hop flavor. A great widely available winter brew.

The body has a dark brown almost black appearance with deep crimson highlights when held up to light. Its has a stiff, creamy thick tan head on top that has very good retention and leaves lots of thick tan lacing on the glass. The aroma fills the nose with lots of roasted sweet malts. It has a wonderful full body that starts creamy and sweet on the palate. Quickly more roasted flavors take over with notes of burnt caramel and coffee. There is a quick flash of hop bitterness in the middle before the sweeter roasted flavors take over and fade off slowly into the finish. The texture is full and smooth on the tongue with soft carbonation.

Poured a deep black with a light tan, medium head; average lacing. The aroma is sweet, roast malt. Taste is medium bitter, with a hint of sweetness. Medium bodied, somewhere between oily and creamy with an above average carbonation (at least from this bottle) and a slightly bitter finish. Overall, a pleasant porter.

A good Porter, though nothing special. Little chocolate taste, typical color. Not bad, but not great.

Very impressive light tan head--a full three fingers thick. Initially I didnt see any lace, but as the drink progressed, the lace became more pronounced Chocolate and cream aromas. Theres also a touch of oily alcohol. The chocolate comes through in the taste, almost like a bittersweet hot cocoa. Very rich body, the carbonation seems a little below average. This has the consistency of the root beer float. Im having trouble picking up the hop, but can tell its present because the beer is well-balanced. I recommend this porter.

12 ounce bottle pours a very dark brown almost black with a reddish hue. Light khaki creamy head. Some nice lacing. Aroma of licorice and chocolate with some Earthy undertones. Seems a bit highly carbonated. A Rich coffee chocolate licorice flavor. Seems like it's lacking something though. Good not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
