Had it on thanksgiving I believe. As I don’t really eat any thanksgiving food, i spent most of time with the holiday variety pack of sam adams and enjoyed my day. This one was the best beer of there and the best Sam Adams actually that I have tried. Just pure chocolate malty goodness I wish they made this available year round swiseman (536) - Fredericton, New Brunswick, CANADA - MAR 14, 2013
pours a thick black with a thin beige head (some light lacings on the glass). aromas of caramel, wheat and bubble gum. medium mouth-feel. some milk chocolate, roasted toffee, light molasses with subtle nuts and possible hint of woodsy spice. finish is quite strong with old molasses and fermented fruit peel and licorice. overall, very solid porter. wattsdog (13) - Maryland, USA - DEC 26, 2005
A dark black color with a big tan head. Has a malt aroma with a hint of chocolate in it. Has a rich sweet taste of chocolate and other spices to it. noelcb (271) - Toledo, Ohio, USA - DEC 9, 2006
Nearly black, 3 fingers of thick, solid tan foam, fades quickly leaving nice trail of lace. Aromas of caramel, graham crackers and malt. Flavor was nicely toasted malt, bitter chocolate, strong coffee, herbal bitter hops, caramel and dark fruit. Nice texture -- neither watery nor engine-oil thick. Not overcarbonated. Quite tasty, leaning toward the stout end of the porters starfireming (309) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAR 15, 2007
Lovely black body, low tan head. Dark malt and caramel aroma, fairly rich flavours of coffee and malt. Probably better warmed a little.

Beautiful beer. Dark semi translucent red/black color. thin diminishing head. Smell is malty sweet with hints of chocolate. Taste is sweet toffee chocolate mix, with a creamy mouth feel. Finish with slight hop taste, but not very much. I loved this beer. adam42381 (627) - Fort Myers, Florida, USA - JUL 25, 2010
Appearance: Pours a near-black, coffee-like color with a nice, dark cream 1-2 finger head. Lacing doesn’t dissipate too quickly.
Smell: Smell is quite faint but nice enough. Has a bitter-sweet aroma that reminds me of coffee with caramel.
Taste: Excellent mix of chocolate and coffee with a slight hint of citrus. Very enjoyable bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Not as heavy as a lot of porters, which I actually prefer. Quite nice.
Drinkability: I’d say that it has high drinkability. Not a beer you want to pound a lot of, but a good beer to enjoy on a crisp evening.
Overall: I’m very happy with this offering from Samuel Adams. An excellent offering from the Winter Mix pack. I only wish it were available all year. Very good porter and I would highly recommend. jjgmd (2289) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - DEC 11, 2011
Pitch black appearance, coffee colored head with a malty aroma. Nice pleasing flavor with hints of chocolate, toffee and coffee. Nicely balanced with the malts bursting through and the mild bitterness following. Leave it to Sam, again....cannot speak highly enough of the team from Boston. Cheers, try it, it is part of the Sam Adams Winter Collection. Bravo and has beautiful lacing. jimbojames88 (5) - Regina, Saskatchewan, CANADA - JUN 30, 2012 does not count
great holiday beer, chocolate aroma, dark brown appearance, nice vanilla coffee taste to it finn1918 (238) - Georgia, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Easily my favorite from the SA winter pack. Pours a deep ruby (read: you can see all the way through if held to the light) with a small light tan head that leaves no lacing. Aroma is toast, chocolate, and christmas cookie spices. Taste is chocolate malts, cookie spices, and burnt toast. Good semi-thick mouthfeel with a long, leisurely finish. This blew me away when I was new to craft beer, but it isn’t as impressive now. Still, possibly the best of SA’s normal lineup.
