Bottle to glass. Weird orange-spice on the aroma. Hazy orange-copper with small off-white head that fades to a collar of soapy, chemistry-type bubbles. Turbidity abundant. Seems like yeast in the bottle but quite surprising. Flavor leans to the spice and a slight cloying malt aspect that belies the alcohol content.

Quite nice ipa! Pretty gold pour w/ a white head & solid lacing. The aroma has a very good piney hop aroma. The taste is mildly earthy hoppy throughout & finishes a bit bitter. It has a decent mouthfeel & overall is pleasant offering!

12oz bottle to nonic pint. Pours hazy orange gold, short sticky head. Aroma of pine, grapefruit, orange, old shoe, wheat, red pepper, caramel. Taste of same with bitter grapefruit/spice hop. Very easy drinker with mod mouthfeel, mod carb, wheat and hops. Not bad. Sam Adams may be the big dog with mediocre brews but they got me here. I really love balanced pine.

Pours a hazy soft yellow color. Lots of little stuff floating about. Very nice two fingers thick white head. Pretty good longevity, decent retention, good lacing.

Aroma is not so hot. I know it’s probably lemongrass, but all I can think of is cat urine soaked clothes that you’ve laundered but are still slightly wet and stale.

Fortunately that stench doesn’t find its way into the taste. It’s mildly hoppy. Mild orange zest, light pine bark. It’s mild, but not really flavorful.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Soft and dry. A little bitter. That aroma thing sort of comes back now. Ooh, there’s some tongue numbing pepper coming out now.

Overall, this is not so good. The only good thing about it, is it’s pretty. You should probably just pour it, and dump it out. I’d say this was a hurried attempt to round out the seasonal pack. Is it enough to not buy the seasonal pack, well no, but you could try to trade it or something. No, I wouldn’t recommend it, I wouldn’t buy it again. For me, I might be discouraged from buying the seasonal pack in the future if this was in it. I’m disappointed in Samuel Adams for letting this one out. Who ever heard of a hopflake anyway....?
