2007 release info:
Yes, were a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the worlds finest hops. And we mean explosion in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

Bottled. An unclear orange beer with a thick orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and hops as well as light notes of prunes and dust. The flavor is sweet with a powerful malt and alcohol note as well as a light salt note, leading to a very bitter finish. The body is thick. Not as clean as a pilsener should be - more like an ale in its expression.

(Bottle 72 cl) Vintage 2005. Hazy, amber golden with a small, off-white head. Tart, citrusy nose. Full-bodied with a very solid malt base, a bit oily and an odd, salty edge. Very distinct bittering hops. But an interesting experience. 160607

[Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm] Pale amber, average head. Hoppy aroma of resin, pine needles, strawberries and grapefruit. Sweet and densely malty. Very hoppy. Resiny finish with salty licorice and piney bitterness. Like a bottm fermented IPA, but closer to a sorghum beer or a sahti than a pilsener.

Cloudy deep blond color. Deep hoppy aroma, a bit sweaty and honeyish, and some fusel; light fruits too. Toffee flavor, with dry edges; strong bitterness, with dry resins. Unbalanced.

Beautiful hazy copper color. Powerful hoppy aroma, more resiny and fruity than expected. Strong body, with a strong caramel-toffee flavor and an extreme hopping; the hopping is quite resiny; compared to an IPA it has less body and less fruitness. Very good.

Bottle. Hazy yellow color, offwhite head. Hoppy, grassy, fruity aroma, apples, pine apples, some sweetish notes. Hoppy bitter flavor, grassy, dryish, some fruits, some pepper. Quite a bitter finish. Som much more than most lagers...
