Not too bad for a wheat ale. Has a hazy medium golden color with a nice little head. Smells of sweeter malts with hints of mild orange peels. Has a pleasant flavor that is a little bit fruity but well balanced with the malts. Aftertaste is nice and smooth. I’ve heard good things about this one and am happy to have tried it. djd07 (14469) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 16, 2009
Bottle. Pours a cloudy copper golden with a medium frothy off white head that diminshes quickly. The aroma is a light malt with lemon honey and banana. Decent spotty lacing on the glass. The taste is very sweet with banana and citrus and alcohol is very present. a unique wit from Sam Adams. JasonG (776) - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - MAR 15, 2009
12 oz bottle - Pours a slightly cloudy light orange color with small white head. Aroma has fair amount of caramel, loads of coriander and orange peel, honey, subtle grains of paradise. Flavor has fair amount of toasted caramel, bit of lemon zest, vanilla. Finish is fairly sweet. Hides its alcohol well. Overall a decent brew. I’m not really sure about the whole idea of an imperial wit, but it is still pretty decent. ganache (5893) - New Jersey, USA - MAR 15, 2009
Celebrating my 1000th US rating with this massive (10.3%!) abomination to style. Bottle. Coriander, wheat, orange rind nose. Orange-amber pour, darker than usual, with a large, fluffy beige head. Taste is very, very sweet and full of citrus. Orange and light banana esters with somewhat restrained alcohol, I certainly wouldn’t have marked it as high as it is. Actually, a rather nice achievement, no burn or fusels, and only a light throat-warming and cheek-reddening after five or six ounces. Smooth carbonation and lightly syrupy, really fun to swish around the mouth, a little like what we all want to do with that loogie before politely swallowing in front of company, only colder! Medium body with a twang of acidity but not metallic notes. Some molasses and grape, and the aftertaste has some sort of peach-mango jazz in the background. Would buy this again, perhaps as a substitute for port in the summer. Call me surprised! jimmack34 (640) - Lancaster, Ohio, USA - MAR 15, 2009
12 oz bottle. Pours hazy copper with a decent light tan head. Smells of candy wheat and seasoning. The taste is of tons of coriander, soft wheat, slightly citrusy, and nice soft carbonation. Flavors of some light fruit come through, like candy apple, grape, lemon. Very good beer.

Pours amber in color with a thick, white head, high carbonation and a slight haze to it. Aroma is slightly sweet, cinnamon, orange and spicy. Flavor starts off with some alcohol and moves into a coriander flavor, followed by a hint of lemon citrus, cinnamon and sweet maltiness, creating a modest flavored beer. A carry over flavor after the beer is gone that reminds of sweet white grapes.Alcohol is pretty dominant in this and adds an almost has a vodka feel and taste. Overall, the alcohol flavor is a bit too dominant and overshadows some of the other flavors that are trying to come out in this beer. Strykzone (7351) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - MAR 14, 2009
A cool looking beer that is opaque amber orange and has some glow in the dark quality. A nice thick light gold head has decent retention. The aroma is nice and fruity with some wheat and sugar. Flavor is also fruit dominated with a complex mix. Just a bit of spice and just a bit of wheat flavor. Throw in a good sized cup of sugar. Alcohol is evident and even the beer was served refrigerator cold it tasted warm due to the alcohol. This doesn’t seem like a wit at all but is a very good beer. Tasty, aromatic, nice looking, and smooth drinking. Is an imperial pale lager next? demitriustown (1192) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - MAR 14, 2009
12 oz bottle: Aroma is coriander, bubble gum, and orange. Pours a cloudy amber color with a white head that disappears rapidly. Taste is really spicy almost like a Christmas brew spice wise with a almost artificial banana note on the back end. Bubble gum and orange are mixed in there as well. Palate has an upfront harshness when you put in your mouth. You can really notice the alcohol in the taste as well. It bites that back of your throat. Overall, Hey I’m glad that good old sammy is doing this. It just needs a little tweeking. Cheers! mar (5415) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAR 14, 2009
bottle thanks to travita. amber pour with a thin cream head. heavy nose of coriander and fruit. thick with a huge notes of cinnamon and some fruits. wingman333 (333) - San Antonio, Texas, USA - MAR 14, 2009
Ambitious offering from Sam Adams, which is good. Big orange taste primary flavor, with lots of alcohol afterburn. If you like a screwdriver, this is the brew for you. Some banana. A little too sweet for my liking. Subpar carbonation as well.
