Tasting Notes:

Kosmic Mother Funk Grand Cru is tart, funky, and complex with notes of dark fruits, cherry, cocoa & vanilla. The addition of a small amount of Belgian candi sugar adds a bit of smoothness and hint of sweetness to this beer.

Notes from the Brewers:

This one-of-a-kind Belgian ale is fermented with multiple microorganisms including Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus and other wild critters found in the environment of our 150-year old Boston brewery.
The unique yeasts impart layers of spicy, fruity, & bright tart notes to the beer. Aged in our Hungarian oak tuns, the porous character of the wood allows air to slowly seep in during aging creating micro-oxidation that smoothes any harsh flavors.
Grand Cru often denotes a vintage of the highest quality or the best of the best. This release has been aging in our Barrel Room for just over a year.
Kosmic Mother Funk is the soul of our Barrel Room Collection, blended to varying degrees in each of our five Belgian brews creating a distinct & complex character.

On tap at oc ep, pours a murky brown / amber with a thin khaki head. Sweet aroma of brown sugar and cherries, light yeast. Very sweet, brown sugar and caramel with an underlying tart and sour. Not bad, pretty sweet.

Reddish brown pour with tart cherry and brown sugar aroma. Tart cherry flavor with some brown sugar, and some wood. Great beer.

FROTHINGSLOSH (7161) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 12, 2016
Sampled on draft at the Headkeeper this beer poured a black color with a small foamy beige head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was tart and sour with red wine and vinegar notes. The flavor was tart and sour with vinegar, soy sauce, cherry, red wine and a light yeasty note. Long finish. Medium body but undercarbonated.

Draft pour. The beer is a dark brown with a khaki head. The aroma has strong acidity. Some sweet notes and herbal acidity. Medium body and high carbonation.

Draft to taster at Cincy beerfest 16. Pours a hazy caramel brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet, caramel malt, brown sugar, tart black cherry character, additional dark fruit, wood, vinegar, lactic sour notes, dark caramel, mild funk, just a bit too much acetic character for me.

Draft pour at Special Brews. Darkest of brown pours with almost no head. Brown sugar, sour cherry aroma. Light balsamic, cherry, big berry flavor. Smooth finish. Excellent.

750 ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of cocoa, basalmic vinegar, dried fruit and light tobacco. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry tart finish. Flavors of caramel, basalmic vinegar, light dried fruit and a hint of tobacco with a crisp dry tart lingering basalmic vinegar finish.

On tap at Old Burdicks on 1/28/16. Dark red pour with a medium beige head. Aroma of funk, malt and sour fruit. Malty flavor with tart fruit and sweet apple before a tangy fruit finish. Similar to Rodenbach. Nice.

Draft pour. Dark ruby pour. Aroma is quite vinous, sweet, woody. Taste is at first sweet, then bracingly tart, then woody...never really had something progress in layers like this. Vinegar comes out as it warms, but still sweet and woody.

tap. Deep amber red with one finger head. Tart, but not really sour. Cherry and berry notes, light vinegar. I was hoping for some more yeasty funk. Certainly a tasty beer, but I was expecting something more based on the hype.
