COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams® Latitude 48 IPA is a unique IPA brewed with a select blend of hops from top German, English, and American growing regions all located close to the 48th latitude within the “hop belt” of the Northern Hemisphere. The combination of hops in this beer creates a distinctive but not overpowering hop character. The beer is dry hopped with Ahtanum, Simcoe®*, and East Kent Goldings hops for a powerful citrus and earthy aroma. The hop character is balanced by a slight sweetness and full body from the malt blend.

Bottle. It poured a clear copper color with an off-white head and minimal lacing. The aroma is citrus and earthy notes. The bitter taste is dominated by a pine and citrus flavoring.

Pours a light pale copper with a long-lasting white foam head. Aroma is citrus, earthy, and pine hops, though very light on the nose. Flavor is caramel, and earthy and citrus hops. Has a light sweetness, and a crisp finish. This is pretty much an under the radar drink that’s not in your face, but refreshing and enjoyable anyway.

Bouteille: Copper to light amber coloured, almost clear, hardly medium-sized, but creamy and stable off-white head; cough-syrup, soy sauce and nutty traces in the dryish-bitter nose; moderate to solid dry bitter flavour with some sweetish malty spots; medium bodied and still soft, even though a certain tartness is still detectable, no doubt; lingering - hops sticking to the palate - cough-syrupy and herbal hoppy finish, accompanied by toasted malt; warming alcohol in the aftertaste. O.K., but a bit too "cough-syrupy"…

Bottle. Excellent balance with an old world flair despite the US-hops used. Medium, caramelly body, soft mouthfeel, notes of tea, hoppy-floral but also pervded by red fruit esters. Sweetish, light to medium bitter. Lovely malting. Really awesome stuff, they managed to coin together an English tasting IPA that actually is exciting.

12oz Flasche. Klare helle Bernsteinfarbe mit schönem Schaum. Fruchtiger Hopfen, grapefruit mit verbranntem Zucker. Schöner runder bitterer Geschmack. Tolle Citrus Frische. Süffig und lecker!

(5) Average at best. Low hoppy. Not so interesting. Low ball. Too commercial. You know what I mean - where is the soul Samuel?!

PapaVillum (947) - Valby, DENMARK - OCT 21, 2015
---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Maker: Boston Beer Company, Boston/Mass., United States *** Beer: Samuel Adams Latitude 48 IPA (bottled, 330ml) *** Style: India Pale Ale (IPA) *** ALC.VOL.: 6.0% *** "Brewed with a select blend of hops from top German, English, and American growing regions all located close to the 48th latitude within the “hop belt” of the Northern Hemisphere. The combination of hops in this beer creates a distinctive but not overpowering hop character." [brewery notes] *** Colour: Deep, slightly hazy amber with a medium, creamy off-white head. *** Nose: Caramel(!), herbs, pine, whiff of citrus. *** Texture: Medium- to full-bodied, not watery at all. Modest carbonation. *** Taste: Herbal and pinewood notes are dominant at the start, together with some unspecified citrus notes and chewy malts. Spicy, too. Medium is a bit resinous, with citric, pine and herbal essences rivaling for dominance. Finish is malty, only modestly bitter - in contrast to the after taste, which emphasizes pinewood. *** Impressions: Very good IPA/APA with a nice balance of hoppy and malty notes. Not a hop monster to be sure! But the malts add flavour and depth, and the herbal notes are interesting. Not *that* much different from their "Rebel IPA".
