Samuel Adams Latitude 48 IPA is a unique IPA brewed with a select blend of hops from top German, English, and American growing regions all located close to the 48th latitude within the hop belt of the Northern Hemisphere. The combination of hops in this beer creates a distinctive but not overpowering hop character. The beer is dry hopped with Ahtanum, Simcoe*, and East Kent Goldings hops for a powerful citrus and earthy aroma. The hop character is balanced by a slight sweetness and full body from the malt blend.

Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in an English pint glass. The beer pours a medium amber color, with a moderate just off-white head. The nose shows English crystal malt and earthy/herbal hop notes. German and English varietals of the latter seem to come through far more perceptibly than any U.S. species. Pleasing, but seemingly lacking some oomph for the style. The palate shows a mild but noticeable malt sweetness up front, followed by a quite strong note of fresh hop flavor in the mid-palate to finish. The latter is a note unlike any Ive experienced in an IPA, and is quite nice; akin to the aromas volatized from the addition of hops to the brew kettle. Again, the flavors are pleasing, but lack the bitterness and hop punch found in excellent versions of the style. Mouthfeel and carbonation are both nicely dialed in. The finish seems almost balanced, with lingering notes of both hop bitterness/flavor and a slight residual sweetness. The general is of a recipe styled after U.S. east coast and/or English versions of the style. Overall, an interesting concept and a pleasing beer, if not quite up to the task of being a truly aggressive IPA.

Flasche von Globus. Wunderbarer Beerenduft. Trb Braunes Bier mit viel Schwebstoffen. Fester Schaum. Im Antrunk starke Malz- und Brotnote. Mittlere Bitterkeit. Im Geschmack finden sich die roten Beeren leider kaum.

Bottle at Crossfire. Nice amber colour white head. Hoppy nose, grapes taste. The bitter finish was a nice companion to the "diablo" burger I was enjoying.

Clear copper color with a full, ecru colored head. Nice lace. Green hops aromas dominate. Hints of fresh herbs and lightly caramelized malts in the background. Flavors are quite dry. Dry white toast comes to mind. Mild bitterness with a some grapefruit zest and pith. Not much depth to this one. Rather linear. Last bottle of the six pack and it seems that Ive been less excited about trying each successive one. 7/10

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2016 Flaske. Rav farvet med en flot hvid skum krone og en krydret-humlet duft. Aroma: Frugt og humle. Smag: Masser af humle, citrus-frugter og bitterhed i eftersmagen. En vel afbalanceret IPA.

Color is clear amber with ok off-white head. aroma of caramel, hops and fruit. Taste is sweetish at first turning into a bitter finish. A little bit of alcohol in finish, but its not too much. Decent IPA.
