Opaque black - brown beer, good pale tan head. Semi soft and airy palate. Semi dry. Even dark malt with whispers of roast and coffee. Mild lactose cream. Fresh piney hops with a trace of orange. Finishes fresh and slightly minerally. Very well joined up and tasty black IPA.
A: The beer pours a dark brown color with some amber notes and a tan head with plenty of spider web lacing.
S: Dank hops with some nice citrus (grapefruit) and pine, perhaps even some spicy hop notes. The roasted malt aroma is quite strong and takes away from the hoppiness of the beer.
T: The roast really dominates the flavor. Some hints of chocolate malt and a bitterness from the roasted malts as well. A moderate citrus character and some piney hops giving bitterness as well.
M: Medium in body with a moderate carbonation.
O: A good but not great Black IPA. Could have used less roast character and brighter hops. bhensonb (15352) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 24, 2011
Bottle from michael-pollack. Pours very dark brown with a creamy/bubbly 3 finger tan head. Strong cat pee and floral aromas. Med body. Flavor is burnt malt/veg with a lot of citrus and floral hop. With a little time a very clean floral hop aspect comes forth. Then it all starts over again. Eventually it begins to suggest chocolate. Bitter chocolate. Dang good beer. djd07 (15106) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAY 5, 2011
Bottle as shown. Pours a very dark brown almost black with a large creamy light tan head that lasts awhile leaving good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a floral hop and resin with light malt. Thin mouthfeel with a smokey hops and light roast with a nice bitter finish. Easy to drink hiding the alcohol well, a very good black IPA. This brew pours nearly black with a medium creamy tan head that dissipates slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney hops, malt and tobacco. Medium body with a roasted malt character punctuated by resiny hops and pine. The finish is hoppy with a lingering malt and citrus aftertaste.
