Created by Samuel Adams employee Fred Hessler.
Fred wanted to go big or go home with his homebrew and decided to brew a kicked up Sticke Alt. This full-bodied ale has a big, malty character balanced by subtle orange and grapefruit notes from the hops. With a light amber color, this brew has a sweet finish.

This is pretty good but definitely sticky sweet. It has a sugary character to the body but doesn’t taste as strong as it is. Pretty good.

A 9.3% alt? - what the shit? - also, I read this as "derp’s alt" - her der! - probably fitting, considering that this beer is seriously retarded - crazy strong alcohol presence - odd bubblegum notes and moderate esters - messy spicy character - some brown sugar and banana - some raisin and fig - finish is seriously hot - so, so damn messy.

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Mocha conglomerate head with medium retention leaves sheet lacing as it recedes. Roasted nuts, caramel and cereal aromas. Sweet toffee and treacle upfront turning to mild roasted nuts before the lasting hot caramel finish.

Strong, malty aroma has a firm and somewhat sugary overtone of horehound and molasses. It pours a clear, dark, bubbly cola brown with a very thick, fine-bubbled, pale tan head that leaves some good lacing. Flavor has a malty core and strong notes of brown sugar and horehound, heavy on the sweetness - maybe a tad or two too heavy. The undertone of hop bitterness and the alcohol nip do not quite balance the sweetness. Subtle citrus hints come through as well. Texture has decent body and fizz, and is a bit sticky. Good one, but next time maybe ease up on the sugar?

12 ounce bottle poured an amber redish color, with aromas of malt, over riped fruit, light citrus, and some caramel. Flavors are the same, heavy malt flavor overall, did not taste like a 9.3% beer that is for sure.

Sampled on 7/7/2012. This altbier pours a dark brown color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized beige white head with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is caramel, malt, sweet and bready. A medium bodied altbier. The malts are caramel, bready and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent carbonation. Nice sweet bready malts. Tastes like a dopple sticke. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

deep reddish brown, but very clear. minimal head. smells of roasted malt and caramel. strong alcohol impact to the tastebuds. there’s some good flavor there, but there’s also a cough syrup flavor that i can’t get past. if it were less boozy, i’d definitely like it better.

12 oz. bb Aug 2012. Clear, deep mahogany with a lasting disc of creamy foam. Nose is cocoa, toffee, dates, banana, marshmallow and citrus. Taste is similar, but has more dark toffee and raisin. Peppery citrus zest, some grassy hop, and acidity from the roast are nearly able to tame the big malts when the finish rolls around. Heavy body is smoothly carbonated, a tad sticky, and shows just a hint of the 9.3%.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of malt, light dark ripe fruit, light caramel, and some brown sugar. Poured deep amber/brown/deep orange in color with a small, creamy, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Good lacing. Flavor is medium sweet, but also just off. Tastes of malt, light caramel, vegetables, and garbage. Medium body. Slick, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, vegetable, garbage finish is medium sweet, lightly bitter, and dry. 9.3%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
