Near black color with a tight bubbled tan head. Hearty aromas, with treacle, dark licorice, toasted grains and caramel covered nuts. Full feel, but not much life. Sweet start, with graham crackers, burnt sugar, walnuts and cocoa. Black malt finish and linger, with just a touch of ash. 4/13

Bottle from the rotter. Nose is dried fruit, light sherry, some vinous character. Medium sized, moderate brown head. Taste is light sherry, definitely oxidized, lightly thin. Just ok slowrunner77 (12159) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 11, 2015
over a year old. a nice chewy impy stout, if not a standout. roasty, dark fruit and light cofee. Bittersweet. Jimthechap (2064) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 25, 2014
Lord knows I love an Imperial Stout. They’re inevitably the heavy hitters that garner the better scores in my opinion. Most of those I have sampled have been exceptional in the beer world. This one, and I apologise to Joe Formanek, was pretty good. I like to use superlatives with beers that deserve them, but this was pretty good but not up to the leap to the next level. It looked bang on and its aroma was of bitter cocoa, juicy raw cranberries and other ripe, tart berryfruit. This was prevalent in the flavour that was ultra tart at first and then along comes molasses and burnt caramel. It wasn’t as fulsome as many highly rated exponents of the style, but in staying that, there was nothing wrong with it. jbrana (640) - NASHVILLE, Tennessee, USA - AUG 28, 2014
Very thick and dark with some interesting dark fruit, molasses, and coffee flavors. Good, just not my favorite beer to have in the summer.

Big bold tasting beer, some age did not hurt. Big black with lasting head. Some complex roast and chocolate. Very good drinker. Darkmagus82 (2302) - - MAY 25, 2014

Poured from bottle into snifter
Appearance – Pours a wonderfully black color with a very light brown head formed upon pouring. The beer looks thick just while pouring it and you can tell it has a nice body. The light head faded fast giving way to a nice amount of lacing.
Smell – Chocolate and a roasted coffee aroma are the strongest. These are mixed with some roasted coffee-espresso aromas as well as some lighter sweeter vanilla and dark fruit aromas. There is a little kick of boozy aroma in there as well.
Taste – The taste up front is a mostly of more roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate. The roasted notes lighten some more toward the middle giving some sweeter vanilla and a bit of caramel some time to develop. There is an ever so light dark fruit/plum flavor mixed in. These lighter flavors are lost in the end however with some nice bitter chocolate and bitter malt flavor taking over.
Mouthfeel – Just as the appearance hinted at, this beer has a nice creamy body that allows it coat the mouth with all of the wonderful flavors. The carbonation however was a little bit too high not really complementing the creaminess of the body. While a bit overcarbonated it was by no means awful and overall the mouthfeel is very nice.
Overall – This is a nice imperial stout. I would hope that Sam Adams brings this or something similar into the regular rotation. It has wonderful characteristics and is very affordable (part of the longshot 6 pack for only $11.00). Fantastic!!! esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 25, 2013
Midnight black with a large dark brown cap. Aroma of dark roasted malts, coffee, molasses and light hops. Taste is sweet with coffee, chocolate, dark roasted malts and a bit of alcohol. devman171 (1221) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - SEP 16, 2013
Found this in the back of the fridge, nice roasted aroma, smooth and roasty flavor, nice stout monkeychugg55 (1093) - Joliet, Illinois, USA - AUG 21, 2013
Very thick black pour with a small brown head. The aroma is super dark roast, chocolate, some oxidation, and some mellow alcohol. The flavor is similar, with a lingering bitterness. Pretty tasty stuff.
