Zack Adamss Magnificent Seven IPA is described as a showcase of seven American hop varieties that impart a big piney and lingering resinous flavor. A true Imperial American IPA, this brew pours a rich bronze color. The slightly sweet malt character is pleasantly balanced by a pronounced hop bitterness with grapefruit, pine and earthy notes from the American hops. This medium-bodied IPA also delivers caramel, citrus, lemon and piney aromas.

Caramel and wood aromas with a slight vegetal note. Clear copper/amber color with a thin but lasting off-white head. Strong, sweet caramel malt flavor with a slight cooked vegetable taste in the back as well as some smoke. Theres earthy bitterness here, but its a bit heavy handed and ends up being more of the vegetal flavor that almost gets overpowering. Lays down a dry bitterness on the tongue thats nice, but the vegetal stays around too. Not bad, but the hops need to be a bit brighter. *** Wow, reading the other ratings makes me think I got a bad bottle. Hopefully I can find another to try! ***

12oz Bottle. Medium head; fine lacing. Surprisingly mild, faintly piney aroma. Color and taste is exactly as described: "This brew pours a rich bronze color. The slightly sweet malt character is pleasantly balanced by a pronounced hop bitterness with grapefruit, pine and earthy notes." A lingering bitterness is the price exacted for the complexity of flavors. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a beautiful clear chestnut with a rather thick and frothy pale tan head. Aroma is strong and seriously hoppy, with resin and grapefruit underpinnings, promising a first-class IPA. Aroma is - HOLY MOLEY, this one will get your palates attention! Hoppy note bold as a pit bull, quite bitter; a dump truck full of grapefruit, and an alcohol bite like a tiger shark add up to HEY BOSTON BREWING HIRE ZACK ADAMS RIGHT AWAY!!! Texture is firm, smooth, and rather fizzy, leaving a woody and fruity finish. Magnificent indeed!

Bottle. Enjoy before: 09/13. A clear rusty pour with a thick antique white head that leaves rings of lacing behind. The aroma features lots of pine, grapefruits, zesty citrus rinds, caramel, rye, and a little orange/lemon juice. Goes down medium to full-bodied and fairly smooth. The taste starts with quite a bit of toffee, caramel, and a rich freshly-baked bready maltiness. Chewy. A touch of creamy vanilla in the middle. Grapefruits and zesty citrus rinds are present at the end. The finish is very dry and lingers for quite a while. Resiny. A fair amount of warming alcohol is present throughout.

Bottle from Sprouts: Poured a medium orangish colored amber hue topped with a growing thick foam head. Aroma is balanced well between a variety of hops and some big caramel like malts but does have somewhat of a pungent whiff. The drink is also balanced in the ingredients as well with a chewy backing of sweet malt and bitter hop pellets that actually remind me of a hopped up barelywine. I cant remember but this might be the first Imperial IPA I have tasted from Sam Adams. Clearly the winner from this years Longshot series

Ruby-amber in color with a massive, lacy off-white head. Sweet roasty (almost like hot dogs) aroma with floral hop edges. Malt forward, almost chewy with floral hop spikes and some lingering piney-ness in the finish.
