"Cereal and citrus hop aroma that is subdued overall yet pleasant. Clear mahogany body, 3/4" tan head and great lacing. Sweet and hoppy feel, yet lacking enough depth to stand out. Caramel, molasses, bread, fruity hops and a hint of pine. Overall a nice but tame B-wine."

300th rating of this beer! Bottle from the rotter. Pours a murky reddish brown with a medium, light khaki head. lots of tiny compact bubbles. Nose is toffee, caramel, a bit of bread. Taste is moderately sweet with a firm hop bitterness. As it warms, more chewy and caramel flavors come out. by now, all of the hops are bitter with a faint grassiness. a very smooth alcohol warming. A: Creamy layer over an amber ale with excellent clarity. Good retention of head. Little to no lacing.
S: Good barley scent. Not much hop there, more English in nose to me. Nice, enjoyable.
T: Very sweet. Despite my appreciation for the nose, this may have benefited from a slight addition of flavor hops. Otherwise, standard barley, malt, grain, sweetness. ABV well hidden.
M: A bit flat. Slicks the mouth, but again, wish there were a hint more carbonation.
D: Good barley for drinking now. Might entertain cellaring a few.

Bottle @ Aaron’s basement. Hazed copper pour with an off-white head. Sweet caramel and fruit. Plum, dates, and hints of citrus peel. Some grape/wine, notes. Sweet flavor of brown sugar and caramel. Dates, plums, and grape. Citrus zest, some sherry, and apple. Oxidation is evident.

A - Pours a dark ruby with an off-white head that melts into a wispy island of tiny bubbles.
S - Rich malt, dark dried fruit, roasted brown sugar, alcohol vapors, over ripened grapes
T - Toasty and complex, sugary sweet malt, chocolate, candied plum, deep dark cherry flavor, alcohol is very prominent, also has a nice toasted caramel flavor along with an old musky oak flavor. The delicate pine hops supports the giant malt compound. Mouthfeel is full bodied with average carbonation for the style. Aftertaste is of citrus hops.
A very malty/complex forward Barleywine that finishes with a dry citrus flavor. This has lots of stories to unfold with age.
Don’t pass it up.

Clear amber beer with a big off white head. Light palate, a little dry and crispy. Very light malt with a lot of floral things going on. Very mild citrus underneath. Semi dry finish with mild bitter linger. The most floral barleywine I’ve ever had!
Poured from 12 ounce bottle bought when this beer was commercially available, tasted on July 27, 2012--yes, it sat in the back of my fridge all that time. Nice dark amber hue, large tan head that slowly receded with good lacing, vinous aroma with date and other fruity elements, creamy, smooth, but firm bittersweet flavor. My other bottle of this broke shortly after I bought the Long Shot six pack it was in, so I don’t know if this improved or declined with age. Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours reddish brown with a huge beige head and a toffee aroma. There is a sweet fruity malt flavor with lots of caramel and a dry slightly bitter finish.
