Bottled. A dark amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, alcohol, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, metal, over ripe fruits, and caramel, leading to a dry bitter and alcoholic finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. Very rich and deep. Alcohol is slightly present. Reminds me slightly of a barleywine. A pretty tasty brew from Sam Adams. douglas88 (9192) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 10, 2009
UPDATED: JAN 11, 2009 Bottle thanks to goldtwins. Pours out a beautiful dark copper color with a thick off-white head and some ice lacing. The aroma is powerful and nice; loads of fruity notes and just heaps of malts. Something akin to strawberries or plums. The flavor is excellent; smooth rich flavors, some heavy and sweet fruit, a massive sweetness, molasses and brown sugar, a tangy finish and some sweet burnt chocolate and caramel. A nice roasted mocha-like flavor in the finish. The alcohol is present; from the nose to the finish, but not in a bad way, it just adds to this beer’s quality. Very nice. I hope this gets produced for many years. Man, I am loving Old Ales. sebletitje (10080) - Enghien, BELGIUM - DEC 21, 2008

Pours deep brown with beige head.
Aroma and taste, thick grainy with notes of caramel malts and chocolate, add to the mix some dark fruits.
Very enjoyable and slow sipper. Props to Sam Adams for releasing it.

Acquire via trade with grandet. Huge thanks to Tony for letting this go in trade. Pours amber with thin mocha head. The aroma is malty with the addition of molasses, ripe dark grapes and mild musty earthiness. The taste has a nice maltiness mixing with rich dark fruity esters of grapes, boysenberries and prunes. Very nice bold flavors that could easily age another couple of years. Very tasty. Into the finish I get a bit of sweet silky caramel candy to go along with the other notes. kiefdog (1826) - Tampa, Florida, USA - DEC 19, 2008
Bottle courtesy of Ibrew2or3. Bottle dated June 2007. Pours a generally clear dark amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of maple syrup, vanilla, caramel, some phenol notes. Flavor is also malty and sweet with notes of caramel, honey, and molasses. Generally medium body with a sweet malt finish. Snojerk321 (2960) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 15, 2008
Bottle. Pours a clear deep brown, small tan head that quickly dissipates. Lots a bubbles threw the beer. Smells of sweetness, copper, bitter fruit, and some malt. Sweet flavor with a lingering finish. Some toastiness on top of the cough-syrup flavor. jimmack34 (640) - Lancaster, Ohio, USA - DEC 11, 2008
Bottle. Had this one when it first when it came out, and Im going off memory. Smelled strong, lots of hops and malts. Tasted very bitter with the hops, but lots of sweet body with the flavorful malt. Carmely and piney. Thick and grassy. Roasty and earthy. Lots of flavor and well balanced. Very good. My fav of all the longshots so far. fordest (2470) - Santee/San Diego, California, USA - NOV 27, 2008
Reddish brown pour from the 12 oz bottle. Not much head. Malty aromas with sweet caramel. More sweet malts on the flavor as well. Caramel and dark fruits. Some alcohol in the finish. Pretty tasty.
