3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep brown amber color with a medium off-white head. Aroma has raisins, bread, gum, bananas and nuts, no detectable hops. Rich body, very sweet, alcohol is well masked. Malts all the way. Would like to see more tobacco or light smoke flavors, or even hops, something to cut the sweetness a little bit. Otherwise this is a solid beer.
Bottle courtesy of Hasheem, thank you sir! Hazy amber brown color, small white head. Metallic sherry aroma. Taste is lightly burnt caramel. Oxidized but interesting. slowrunner77 (13206) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 18, 2014
"big malty hearty robust describes this beer. has that home brew quality to it...in a good way, it doesn’t taste mass produced. slightly sweet, very lightly hopped." Iphonephan (7484) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - JAN 26, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2013 From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Vintage 2007. Pours a hazy dark brown with an off white head. Strong ester aromas. Flavors of caramel malt and some raisins. Pretty well mellowed out after all these years. Likely well past its peak. phaleslu (10906) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 29, 2012
12 oz. bottle shared by dbsdelight- thanks again, Dan! Pours a cloudy plum-amber color with a beige ring for a head. Aroma of raisin bread; sweet, spicy, and fruity (banana, figs, dates). The flavor is the same, with a lot of dark fruits and caramel. Very rich. Medium-bodied, with a fruity, sweet mouthfeel and low carbonation. Tasty. I liked this way more than I expected I would. bpreo (3011) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - OCT 12, 2010
UPDATED: OCT 14, 2010 Another Sam Adams Long Shot. This Long Shot looks like a farmer boy. If I felt like getting the bottle out and reading the label I’m sure I could find out who he is. Maybe he is the "Don" in the description above?

medium brown with mild white head. sweet nose. mild bitterness before a lot of medium crystal malt, likely some munich. little hop flavor. some residual sweetness, but not overwhelming. little alcohol and little depth. a solid brew, but the alcohol should portend a richer and fuller product. decent Gregis (1291) - Stilwell, Kansas, USA - FEB 4, 2010
Pours a deep ruddy brown with a creamy, khaki head and sheeting lace. The nose is a big, complex blend of round dark fruit, raisin, spice and alcohol. Full-bodied and soft, almost still, with a drying, mildly bitter, somewhat resinous and slightly alcoholic finish. The flavor follows the nose with a lot of dark fruit and fruity oxidized character fronting a pleasantly drying yet still sweet and boozy finish. This is a nice sipper. shp555 (2024) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JAN 22, 2010
Pours a deep reddish amber color with a tan head. Aroma is caramel,

I bought a doughnut, and they gave me a receipt for the doughnut. I don’t need a receipt for the doughnut, man, I’ll just give you the money, and you give me the doughnut... end of transaction. We don’t need to bring ink and paper into this. I just can’t imagine a scenario where I would have to prove that I bought a doughnut. Some skeptical friend: "Don’t even act like you didn’t get that doughnut! I got the doc-u-men-tation right here... oh, wait it’s at home... in the file... under ’D’..."
