The first of this years winners, Dave Anderson, works in the packaging department at Sam Adams. His submission, a Strawberry Lager, is described as a bright and fresh wheat beer, with a strong strawberry character balanced with toffee and citrus notes the brewers vision of the perfect summertime beer to enjoy after a round of golf on a hot day. Brewed with fresh strawberries, this beer pours a bright golden color and imparts a malty sweetness with hints of lemon and earthiness. Strawberry Lager finishes with a wonderful intensive strawberry flavor without being overwhelming and leaves a lingering creamy sweetness on the palate.

Pours light blonde with a thick white head and a strawberry aroma. There is a light-bodied wheat flavor that starts ok, but then a raunchy rotten strawberry taste comes along to spoil it. I guess thats what they mean by "earthiness."

Bottle on the balcony. Strawberry candy aroma. Its basically a light, crisp lager infused with strawberry. Not overwhelming or artificial. Girly.

12 ounce bottle. Cloudy pale gold color topped by a large foamy white head. Big strawberry nose with a touch of lemony wheat. First sip is light and refreshing with more strawberry and citrus. Light body with very little hop presence. Tastes a lot like strawberry shortcake. Enjoyable.

Bottle to taster (from notes). Looks solid; a hazy orange with white head that dissipates into lacing fairly quickly. Smells of strawberries and light wheat. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Okay at best.

Bottle. The pour light, like a typical lager. The aroma is strong strawberry, could smell it pouring out of the bottle. Very refreshing. The taste is very fruity. This beer, although not my style, is right on the mark for what they are going for.

The aroma is watery and lightly fruity with strawberries and metallic hops. The appearance is hazy gold with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall nothing special.

12oz bottle. Mostly clear yellow orange color. Lots of particles suspended in the body. Good thin, kind of rocky off-white head. Mostly loose splotches and ropes of lace. Great nose... Strawberry, like strawberry shortcake. Kind of creamy. Medium body. Light to medium body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, lightly tart. Great strawberry lager. Refreshing and tasty. Sweet, but not too sweet.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is quite strawberry - just a wee bit cooked, but fairly close to fresh. Med body. Flavor is strawberry, but its a lot more cooked than fresh. Pretty good job of getting clear strawberry flavor in a beer. Maybe a wee bit of breadiness in the finish. Guess it was always there.

This was more like a strawberry soda.. Not much of a beer and this was very fizzy and light
