Bottle poured a clear rddish brown with a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa, maple, pecans and carmel. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Bottle. Poured dark reddish brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate roasted malt and maple aroma. Medium body and smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This beer is better then my expectations. "A little on the thin side for mw, but not overly so. The body and flavor was light, though fairly complex. Sweetish malt, slight roast and chocolate. Definitely quaffable, which is what SA is good at. Would have liked more pecan, but that’s hard to do. Only in the aftertaste. Pleasant brew, though." shrubber85 (11508) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - AUG 6, 2011
Tap. Maple pecan malt aroma. Dark brown color with small head. Lightly sweet pecan malt and moderately bitter hay flavor. Very nice - not too sweet. DocLock (10836) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 18, 2013
Bottle from spring variety pack. Poured turbid dark brown with minimal tan head. Nose was vienna malt, nuts, maple. Tastes somewhat sweet, with a definite pecan/nut element, some cacao, malt, and finishing maple flavor. Good, but not better than your standard nut brown ale. Bottle. Medium brown with a tan head. Aroma is sweet nutty chocolate and male cookies. So sweet, I dreaded the first sip, fearing extract flavours. But happily I was wrong. This is certainly a sweet porter, but in a balanced way, with dry roast in good proportion to the maple and nut flavours. Very nice actually. On a side note-- I recall being put off by the aroma of Sam Adams’ Cherry Wheat, but being similarly surprised at the balanced palate. These guys know what they’re doing.
