Jack McAuliffes pioneering spirit paved the way for the American craft beer revolution. Were rereleasing his original Pale Ale, with its distinct American hop character for the first time in 30 years in honor of Jack and his contributions to craft brewing. Cheers!

Bottle poured into pint glass. Appearance is a transparent golden color with a thin white head. Aroma is a lot of pine and citrus, with some malty hints also. The taste is similar to the scent, but a bit grassier. Crisp carbonated feel, but theres also a strange, oily after-feel to it. Im not overly impressed.

Almost pure white head. Light yellowy brown in color. Grassy and malty. Nice to taste history.

12 oz bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Faint aroma with light metallic notes and light spice. Light honey sweetness. Meh. Transparent golden body with a small, quickly dissipating head. Starts sweet and quite malty. Pretty chewy body. Finishes with light herbal spicy hop flavors. Nice history lesson. It must have sucked being a beer drinker 30 years ago.

bottle. clear gold body with a small head, quickly settling. sort of a raw steeped pale malt / wort smell with strong, off-putting apple juice sugar. the mouth feels coated by an oily film; the hop character is stale; the malt flabby. a fresh bottle, but pretty much lifeless, stripped by filtration. its defining character is apple juice. the grain husks and chalk are not defining characters since these attributes are found in nearly all Sam Adams products.

Very light copper pour. Little white head. Old school hop aroma. Earthy. Spicy. Sweet caramel and Munich malts in flavor too. Very light body with plenty of carbonation. Slightly sweet and slightly hoppy flavor. Kinda bland. ---Rated via iPhone

12 oz bottle notch dated "enjoy by" Jul 2013. Pours light amber in color with a moderate size, sudsy white head. Weak head retention but some lacing S: Appealing grassy-floral-fruity mix. Hay, apples, citrus fruit, faint biscuits and spicy hops, T: Similar to the nose, but less apple and a clearer tangerine note. Interesting mix of flavors, with some complexity. Appropriate hop/malt balance. Feel: Light-medium bodied with medium-light carbonation.

A golden color with a white head. The aroma contains some citrus and herbal notes. Like a vitamin yo. The flavor is slightly bitter but mostly malty with some caramel, cooked veggies, and citrus. Wow another off beer but not so much so that its not enjoyable. Overall ok session stuff.

An indistinct aroma. This was pretty disappointing to me. A slight hop but mostly more a like a plain flavor really.

12oz bottle purchased at Discount Liquor. Pours a bright, golden yellow color with a white head and a little lacing. Aroma is hoppy, light citrus, some pine. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, bready, toasty, light bitter pine hoppiness, with a clean bitter finish. I saw a clip where Jack McAuliffe said that this tastes pretty close to his original New Albion Ale. If true, this must have really turned peoples heads in 1976. Somewhat tame by todays standards for sure, but certainly as good or better than many APAs on the market today. Glad I was able to sample a taste of history. Thanks Jim, Jack, and everyone who helped bring this back.
