2009 Beer Lovers Choice Contestant - Sample A. Similar to a traditional Czech Pilsner, our Samuel Adams Pils is brewed with a blend of 5 Noble Hop varieties from each of the worlds only remaining Noble Hop growing regions. The spicy, herbal and citrus hop character is well balanced by the Weyermann Bohemian Pilsner malt, adding honeyed malt character and full body without sweetness.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2010 Beer is rated to style. Great pour into my Samuel Adams glass - luminous golden color with rich white head of fine bubbles. Nose is somewhat clean with a very nice herbal mustiness. On the palate it is refreshingly light (but not too light), crisp, and again the herbal-hop flavors come through to give it great character. Reminds me of what beer is all about when I first got into beer with the refreshing/drinkability aspect that this one does so well. A great pils.

Pours clear gold with a fluffy 1-2 finger eggshell head that has good retention and leaves some lacing. Aroma is dried grass, herbal/planty hops, biscuit, a hint of citrus rinds, hay, honey and some grainy notes. Flavor is planty hops, hay, dry grass, spice, citrus, light ginger, light biscuit like malts and a leafy, grassy finish that has a hint of citrus to it. Palate is light bodied and dry throughout with a very active, slightly over shap carbonation. Good stuff overall, I think it could use a little less of the spicy notes and a little softer carbonation though.

Bottle. Pours gold with a white head. Light hoppy aroma with some crackery malts. Beautiful noble hops right up front, spicy and floral, with some pale malty notes supporting. Tasty and drinkable.

Pours a golden yellow with minimal head. Aroma of rose petals and mild sweetness. Taste a little like grains and leaves a mild acidic aftertaste. A mild, light beer from Sam Adams that is nothing unique, yet would be enjoyable on a hot summer day.

Cold in a pint glass. Pours golden yellow with a moderate head that dissipates quickly with faint lacing. Lots of floral hop aroma and some citrus and resin. Its very much like an IPA but has the body of a Pils. Overall, its a decent beer and Im kinda shocked that a major brewer took the risk. To hop a mass market beer this aggressively gets them some points in my book. Im not sure I would get it again but it was interesting. The thing is that if I want an IPA I would get an IPA. It I want a Pils would get a pils. What makes this one interesting is basically what make its odd to drink.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2010 Pitcher at off the wagon. Pour is your standard piss light yellow lager.. But it was pretty dark in the bar. Taste is light floral hops, slight citrus, dry and light. Not horrible but uberly light... Probably the lightest Sam Ive had. Rerate: I actually like this.. not sure if I had the same stuff originally. Nice sweet grapefruit tang and juicy hop.. good.

Ummmm... beautiful golden color, nice head, but the taste... not terrible, not great, and this not really a real pilsner-beer either, come on... tastes like a version of their "Boston Lager" with some old crusty orange peels tossed in?!

Appearance: Yellow/gold with a small white head. Aroma: Very minimal aroma, light floral hop notes. Taste: A bit watery, very light and goes down easy. The grassy aftertaste is a turn-off. Palate: Blah, very bland and a bit grainy. Overall: Meh, easy to drink but nothing special in any department, wish the hop flavors werent so lingering.

On tap; poured a dull gold color with a small white head. Aroma of bread and earth. Soft but solid aroma. Earthy and grassy with a toasted bread backbone. Some yeasty/ must.
