2009 Beer Lovers Choice Contestant - Sample A. Similar to a traditional Czech Pilsner, our Samuel Adams Pils is brewed with a blend of 5 Noble Hop varieties from each of the worlds only remaining Noble Hop growing regions. The spicy, herbal and citrus hop character is well balanced by the Weyermann Bohemian Pilsner malt, adding honeyed malt character and full body without sweetness.

22 ounce bottle - $2.59 Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. For brewery-fresh taste, enjoy before month notched -- May. Appearance: Pours out a quite clear, pale yellow body with a tall, moderately lasting, white head. Splotchy lacing on the way down. Smell: An inviting, vibrant zip of hop aromas. Fresh flowers, spice, light lemon, and white pine blossoms. Yeah, sure, there may be a base of grainy-scented pils malt in there, but, first and foremost, its a hoppy nose. Taste: Particularly pale malts and some lesser tones of grainy pilsner malts with a subdued sugared, washed out honey-toned sweetness start things off. The rich Noble hoppiness ebbs and flows between tastes of flowers, spice, citrus, and light pine. Medium-high bitterness, its assertive but not a hair more than is ever needed. Further hint of fresh grains, maybe a thin glaze of honey. A crips finish that starts sweet and then rolls over into a spicy, bitter character. Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation. Drinkability: Very nice! Oh, if only all these so-called pilsners could taste as good. My only quibble is the serving size. Is this available for sale in a 6-pack, or am I stuck with this larger bomber bottle size? Sometimes, all I really want is twelve ounces. No, really!

On tap, a nice hop aroma, decent taste, different from PU but very enjoyable. Id expect this to be better on tap than in bottles due to the relatively fine hop aroma.

A very plain offering from Samuel Adams. Says their is 5 noble hops but there isnt a really strong hop taste to it. Pours a clear golden color like its a miller lite. Pretty clean smooth beer.

Look of pale lager. Decent head. Smelll is sterile in a good way, no bad olfactories here. Bitter and strong, right from the beginning, nearly astringent pils. Little carbonation even tho it looks pretty bubbly in the glass. Surprizingly bitter pale yellow pils, even on the finish.

A delicious pilsener. Aroma was on the weak side. LIght pilsener malt with some biscuit and a hint of grassy hops. Pour was a straw gold with no bubbles and a thin white film for a head. Taste was very nice. Strong hoppy flavor in the front that carries over to the aftertaste. Good strong carbonation. Dry aftertaste. Nice beer.

Aroma is grass and hop. Pours a clear pale yellow with a thin white head. Taste is quite thin, mainly hop with a dry bitterness in the aftertaste. Its a pretty good pilsner.

Poured light golden yellow with a small, fizzy, white head. Aroma is grassy hops. Taste follows with crisp, grassy hops. Bitter finish. Decent.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2010 Beer is rated to style. Great pour into my Samuel Adams glass - luminous golden color with rich white head of fine bubbles. Nose is somewhat clean with a very nice herbal mustiness. On the palate it is refreshingly light (but not too light), crisp, and again the herbal-hop flavors come through to give it great character. Reminds me of what beer is all about when I first got into beer with the refreshing/drinkability aspect that this one does so well. A great pils.

Pours clear gold with a fluffy 1-2 finger eggshell head that has good retention and leaves some lacing. Aroma is dried grass, herbal/planty hops, biscuit, a hint of citrus rinds, hay, honey and some grainy notes. Flavor is planty hops, hay, dry grass, spice, citrus, light ginger, light biscuit like malts and a leafy, grassy finish that has a hint of citrus to it. Palate is light bodied and dry throughout with a very active, slightly over shap carbonation. Good stuff overall, I think it could use a little less of the spicy notes and a little softer carbonation though.
