2009 Beer Lovers Choice Contestant - Sample A. Similar to a traditional Czech Pilsner, our Samuel Adams Pils is brewed with a blend of 5 Noble Hop varieties from each of the worlds only remaining Noble Hop growing regions. The spicy, herbal and citrus hop character is well balanced by the Weyermann Bohemian Pilsner malt, adding honeyed malt character and full body without sweetness.

I got to vote on this beer at the 2009 Blues & Brews in Akron. I was pretty exicted to see it pop up in all the major beer outlets in the area. The aroma is floral hops. The pour is a rich golden yellow with a medium sized white head. The taste nice and mild hoppy. The hops are not over powering, but give nice floral, citrus and some pine flavors. The finish is clean and dry. This is a very enjoyable beer.

Found this one bottled in Wasco, Illinois. Clear, champagne bubbly medium yellow pour with a thin but foamy white head; floral, grassy and spicey hoppiness balanced with a bit of nuttiness; flavor is complex, nice bitterness but balanced; slightly dry finish. Very highly drinkable but not overpowering in any particular way.

golden and clear with large white head. moderate carbonation for style. spicy and floral hop nose. firm bitterness followed by a brief oxidized skunked flavor followed by some spicy hops before a fair degree of residual sweetness for the style. a nice version of the style, i imagine a fresher or better kept version would be very nice

12 oz bottle. Pours pale gold with a soft head that disapates quickly. Smells very grassy, grainy, and slightly floral. Tastes citrusy sweet, grassy, zesty, and somewhat like honeysuckle. Hints of caramel on the side of the glass as the lacing dries and gets warmer. I dont think you could possibly make a better pilsner without overpowering with odd flavors. This is strongly balanaced. All the crisp, refreshing drinkabilty of a pilsner and slow sipping hoppiness of an IPA. An excellent hybrid, if that is their attempt.

Weak weak weak beer. Almost bordering bad, there just isnt anything here... Thin light weak body that washes away into nothing and leaves sponge water on the swallow. Completely average ale, it tastes like a mass lager that should be available anywhere. Not a fan of this one and honestly, I was surprised to see it coming off Sam Adams shelves...

Shared by turdferguson. Very nice translucent light pour with a foamy white head. Nose and flavor both bursting with a delicate fresh Noble hop character, bready malt, tad grassy, citrusy notes. Very tasty.

12 oz. bottles purchased at QFC in Harbour Pointe, WA. Pours a beautiful golden color with a white head. Flavor: Plenty of hops, full-bodied, with a hint of grass, hay, and citrus.

On tap at the Parish Publick House in Santa Cruz. Pours a clear light gold with a frothy white head that displays decent but not great retention. Aroma is full of grains, pale malt and spicy noble hops. Flavor is great as far as pilseners go. The malt base is largely unsweet with a touch of honey and cereal, but mostly straight up pils malt which doesnt even try to get in the way of the hops. One of the hoppiest pilseners Ive ever had, really vivid grassy and spicy character with a very faint unripe grapefruit/lemon citric note towards the end. Its got an appreciable bitterness that unfortunately comes paired with some astringency on the tongue. With a more inspired aroma and a crisper, cleaner finish, this could be world class. But as it is, its just really good and a welcome addition to the mostly-mediocre Sam Adams line.
