COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2009 Beer Lover’s Choice Contestant - Sample A. Similar to a traditional Czech Pilsner, our Samuel Adams Pils is brewed with a blend of 5 Noble Hop varieties from each of the world’s only remaining Noble Hop growing regions. The spicy, herbal and citrus hop character is well balanced by the Weyermann Bohemian Pilsner malt, adding honeyed malt character and full body without sweetness.

Bottle. Pours a clear medium golden color with a small white head that left decent lacing. Nose of sharp herbal and citrus hops with some Euro malts. Very crisp refreshing flavor with some of that German Pilsener funk, decent stuff.

Sample at Neil’s HSC initation. Clear gold color with a thin white head. Crisp and malty aroma with some hop. Malty flavor up front with a crisp hop finish. Very good for the style.

Part of the new Beer Lover’s Choice 2009. Poured from a bottle into a small cup. The color is a yellowish gold with a slight white head. The smell is pretty citrus with some piney hop flavor. The taste is a bit crisp and a bit spicey. Some malty pilsner taste. Some nice citrus feel and some hints of sweet malt flavor. The feel of this beer is light with a medium body

Sample tasting at the Del Mar race track. Pours a nice golden hue with a medium white head. Nose is crisp with a nice citrusy tone. Flavors start with a nice hoppiness, a lot more then I expected in a pilsener, then the pilsener malts join nicely with a sweetness to counter the bitterness of the citrus hops. Very nice beer I was pleasantly surprised. This sample got my vote although both were excellent.

Sample tasting at the Total Wine Pembroke Pines, FL on 08/01/09. Very good. Both beers could make it.

Sample bottle thanks to Joey at CCB. Thanks so much!!! Gold pour. Fluffy white head. Smells like a pils. Grainy, some light hops, grass. Ok I don’t like pils. But as far as they go, this one was really ok. Still I wouldnt want to drink it more than once. Flavor is a bit smooth, some hoppiness and boring.

Sample at Blacklick WIne and Spirits. This smelled like wet socks and tasted like feet. UGH. Sorry. This is one of the worst offerings I have ever tasted from Sam Adams...In our group of about 20 only one person voted for this one...Typical boring pilsener...Which is already saturating the market.

3.2
rusty (1547) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - JUL 30, 2009
Sample at Papago Brewing. Pours a light golden color with a white head. Aroma is malt, touch of hops. Flavor is malt, honey, a touch of hops. Some bitterness in the finish. Nice offering from Sam Adams. Wish they would just release both of the test beers from this contest.
