2009 Beer Lovers Choice Contestant - Sample A. Similar to a traditional Czech Pilsner, our Samuel Adams Pils is brewed with a blend of 5 Noble Hop varieties from each of the worlds only remaining Noble Hop growing regions. The spicy, herbal and citrus hop character is well balanced by the Weyermann Bohemian Pilsner malt, adding honeyed malt character and full body without sweetness.

I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours golden with a white head and pretty good lacing. The aroma is grassy malt and floral hops. The taste is a nice balance of slightly bitter hops, some fruit, biscuit, grassy, and some honey. I was surprised at how much I liked this.

12 oz bottle. Golden to orange, bright and clear in appearance with a white head. Aroma of husky grains, toasted malts, light noble hop spice and hints of herbs and citrus fruit. Similar flavor, adding mild hop bitterness and a light grainy malt sweetness. Not a bad pils, may have been a little old.

Poured from a bottle. Pours a clear pale yellow with a thin white ring. Slightly tart doughy yeast aroma. Taste is somewhat bready and flat then disappears quickly. Not harsh or bitter. Pretty unremarkable. Simple.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2017 Bottle: It poured a clear gold with a white head that quickly dissipated. The aroma was malty and the flavor matched. Very clean finish

Bottle at home. Aroma is grass and citrus, some hay. Flavor is mainly citrus hops, slightly bitter notes, grass, some light biscuity malts. Overall, this is quite a well balanced brew and an enjoyable pilsener.

A great Pilsener. Light and hoppy, nice clean tart fruit. Crisp and clean. No off flavors. Drink it fresh. Got this in a sampler pack but would get a 6er in the summer if I could find them.

I just dont get it. I dont enjoy a single thing about this beer and its lauded as one of the best Sam Adams has to produce. Oh well. Okay, fine. I enjoy the colors on the label (no I dont).

Tons of bubbles rocket up through a pale orange-yellow beer, perfectly clear, topped with a nice, clingy head of white foam. Very, very nice. Grassy hops rule the nose, balanced by a light breadiness and a noticeable sour yeast character. The flavor has all the character of pilsners Ive had in Germany: bright citrus hops dance around with some notes of sweet light lemon and pineapple. I even get a little taste of sticky icky weed which adds to the beer and works great with the other flavors. Surprisingly full-bodied, with lively pepper bubbles. Silky body. This is one killer pilsner.

12oz bottle pours a clear golden with a medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel and honey malt, sweet with faded lightly grassy hops. Taste similar to aroma, no yeast and lacking crispness. Seems more like a pale ale, I remember really liking this and thinking it was an outstanding Pils. I dont know if this was bad bottle, bottle indicates far from best by date, or they changed the recipe.
