This ancient Finnish-style brew dates back to the 1500s as one of the oldest continuously brewed styles. Deep amber in color, this rugged brew’s distinctive aroma and flavor comes from aging on a bed of juniper berries. The herbal, woodsy, and ripe citrus character of the juniper enlivens a sturdy and smooth malt backbone for a fresh and flavorful brew. At Samuel Adams we love experimenting, This series of limited edition brews represents some of our favorite small batch creations.

Muddy brown pour. Aroma is sprucy juniper. Flavor is vegetal with big spicy notes. This is/was a strange beer to say the least

A very nice beer and a history lesson too. It pours a dark amber with a good sized creamy head. The aroma is fruity with a bit of what seems to be tea. The flavor is quite Malty but nicely balanced. The finish has a hint of vanilla.

marcus (10869) - Sacramento, California, USA - MAY 19, 2012
On tap at the West Coast Brewfest. Pours copper with a nice beige head and a sweet citrus aroma. There is a sweet malt flavor with lots of rye and a hint of juniper.

Light brown color. Mild aroma of plants and malt. Flavor has lightly sweet malt, butter, and green beans, but this is very light. Mild herbal finish. I enjoyed this beer.

MadIndian (2743) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 19, 2012
Drank at the Newtown Brewfest. A decent brew for the style with plenty of earth, mint, berry, and herb notes. It finishes dry and with a good bit of character.

Bottle. Fairly rich, slick, caramel, bit of a dulling effect, lightly bitter which is appropriate, like a juniper amber ale. Nice juniper aroma, fruity. Seems decently made.

To be fair, I’m sure it’s a very good close recipe to a Sahti. With the herbal sweet tea like taste it seems as if it is need of more bitterness and aroma.

FunkyBrewster (1518) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 18, 2012
Bottle. Pours deep amber with a small white head. Aroma is sweet, some juniper and a bit of an herbal character, lots of caramel and a touch woody. Flavor starts with tons of caramel and some of that woodiness, sweet and a touch spicy in the finish, a bit bready. Medium body and a sharp carbonation.

falco242 (398) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAY 17, 2012
Ruby pour on tap with a little bit of foamy head. Aroma is lacking overall. Really unique beer - slight saltiness with a spiciness that opens up with the juniper flavor profile. Definitely worth a taste.
