This ancient Finnish-style brew dates back to the 1500s as one of the oldest continuously brewed styles. Deep amber in color, this rugged brews distinctive aroma and flavor comes from aging on a bed of juniper berries. The herbal, woodsy, and ripe citrus character of the juniper enlivens a sturdy and smooth malt backbone for a fresh and flavorful brew. At Samuel Adams we love experimenting, This series of limited edition brews represents some of our favorite small batch creations.

translucent dark red amber with a foamy yellow beige head.
slightly sticky medium-full body with medium-high carbonation.

aroma: juniper, astringent minerality.

taste: juniper and spice, caramel malt. does not have the odd bread yeast character i was expecting.

reminds me of home-brewed pumpkin beers.

Bottle at home from notes. Pours a clear dark amber/copper color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, wood, berries, some spices, citrus peel, herbal, a bit more interesting than most Sam Adams beers.

Pours a clear amber color. Aromas of pine/malts and a touch of citrus/berries. Flavor is a little different. I thought it would be more pine tasting. A little berry flavor and some hop bitterness near the end.

Tasted on 6/8/12 from a large bottle. Pours clear fiery auburn with an average white head that leaves thin lace. The nose is dark caramel malt with some herbal potpourri and clover honey. The flavor is pretty much the same with the bitter herbal potpourri backing up the dark caramel malt and clover honey. The body is medium with stinging carbonation and a long dark caramel and lightly bitter herbal finish.

22oz bottle - Being rated purely on enjoyment here. And enjoyable it was. Aroma had a really nice herbal tea-like quality to it, brown sugar and some-what woody. Moderately sweet, turbinado sugar, woody, herbaceous with a sticky palate. I have no idea if this is what a sahti is supposed to taste like, but its a nice beer.

Transfer from BA review on 10-7-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance The beer pours a very hazy brown amber color with a 1.5 finger tan colored head. The head fades very rapidly at first, but persists once it fades to a about a half of a finger. Upon fading it leaves a nice level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass, with the thin film of foam on the top eventually fading to leave some patchy foam islands. Smell The aroma is of a more sour nature overall with a big dose of juniper. The sour smells are also a mix of sour berry and some lemon citrus with other aromas of some herb and a bit of wood mixed within. Taste The taste begins with a good brown bready flavor with tons of oak wood and juniper flavor complimenting the bready flavor. More and more herbal flavor comes to the tongue as the taste moves on with a bit of a more boozy gin like flavor coming to the tongue more toward the middle to the end. Along with these flavors so too comes some more sweet flavors of a milk chocolate and light fruit flavor (odd combination, but it sorta works in this one). In the end, the sweet flavors mixed with the juniper and gin flavors of the brew, as well as the wood and alcohol tastes, leaves a nice warming oaky, herbal gin taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel The body of the beer is very creamy and chewy with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly lower side. The chewy body and thickness are rather nice for the woody flavors of the brew with it also allowing all the herbal and boozy gin flavors to really be sensed. Overall This is a tasty mix consisting of a sorta amber ale and oaky gin boozy brew that really warms you even while only at 7 % abv. A very interesting and rather enjoyable brew.

"another fruity offering. heavier than the Verloren, and darker. Nice use of Juniper here. Ever present, never overbearing. Off set by an earthy, woodsie undertone and a slight dose of bittering hops. Enjoyed this as well, though I liked the Verloren slightly better.

(bottle - 22 oz) Copper pour with a ton of tan head. Fruity and herbal aroma with lots of, for me, off putting juniper notes. Flavor is sweet and bitter with lots of malt and way too much of that herbal and medicinal juniper flavor. Not for me.

Me and my friend were required to brew a Sahti for a home brew competition we were entering, so we saw this on the shelf and decided to give it a try. I must say I was pleasantly surprised as I thought this beer was going to be awful. It pours in a dark gold murky color that is somewhere in between good and ugly. I really did not like the smell it was funky as hell. Medium-low head which is actually too much head for this style which is supposed to be served flat. Taste was of malty juniper with maybe a little spice from some rye grain. It was surprisingly refreshing and left a clean feeling in your mouth. This beer goes down super easy for something with a 7% ABV. There are some subtle hops detected, i think a noble verity, which I enjoyed and obviously increased the shelf life but again traditionally there is supposed to be no hops and the beer drank within a month after it is brewed, but I realize that would be a money losing endeavor for anywhere outside Finland. Also, I feel as though the flavor of this beer improved greatly as it began to warm. Give this beer a try it is totally different and pretty good.

Catching up on weird old ticks. Nice darkmahogany color. Right away you get a herby scent coming off a malty brew. The flavor is disappointing...mostly ‘cause there isn’t much (or at least not as much as I had hoped). Some burnt sugar, and, if you stretch, a woodsy taste. The juniper mostly comes through as a unfortunate skunky and not especially pleasing aftertaste. The whole feel is a little bit sticky sweet. However, as it warms, the juniper jumps out a bit more and balances better with the malts.
