Easily Sam Adams finest work known to me, though I have a taste for darker beers. Flavor is smooth with mild chocolate and roast flavor coming through. Fine brew for Sam adams

12 ounce bottle, 11/16/17. Near black, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of roast, chocolate, oats. The taste is roasted malts, oats, chocolate, a bit of nuttiness, bitter finish. Thin-medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness. Nice. tapefuzz (865) - Massachusetts, USA - DEC 9, 2017
12oz bottle. Pours black with a moderate tan head. Aroma is roast, coffee, oats, and a tiny bit of chocolate. Taste is roast, grain, earthy hops, and some oats (5.5/10). A little bitter. Light-medium body. Moderate carbonation. Mouthfeel has a sticky oiliness to it. RedSox2004 (1978) - Pacific Palisades, California, USA - DEC 8, 2017
Opaque black, just a hint of medium brown around the edges. Minimal head and lacing. Modest espresso aromas, roasted malts and a hint of ash. Malt sweetness hits first, with a sense of hops bitterness that creeps in then goes away. Coffee and chocolate are clear, with a clear oat presence. Medium bodied, no carbonation to speak of, and the malt sweetness outlasts any hops in the finish. Mep3222 (1659) - East Greenbush, New York, USA - DEC 5, 2017
Slight sweet roasted malt aroma and flavor. Flavorful and full bodied. Nice slight bitter hop finish balances out the sweet malt. Bit of roasted oat taste in the finish. Solid beer from Sam Adams. Step below the chocolate bock, but a good one in the winter mix pack.

From the Samuel Adams holiday mix pack. Poured a smooth black color with a medium sized, brown head. Aroma was plenty of roasted malts, light chocolate, with a little bit of coffee. Some nice smooth creamy oats, with some mild malt and bitter chocolate. poisoneddwarf (2663) - Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, USA - DEC 2, 2017
12 oz bottle from the winter variety pack. Aroma is cocoa, dark bread, coffee, hint of licorice. Pours black with red highlights and a one finger beige head with decent retention. Taste is lightly sweet with lots of roast; has a fleeting metallic off note. Perfect mouthfeel. Not bad. This is the best seasonal pack Sam Adams has come out with in a long long time. slowrunner77 (12997) - Reno, Nevada, USA - NOV 28, 2017
Dark brown with than head. Not quite hearty enough for my taste, but a decently well made beer technically, just a little thin. Light coffee and chocolate on the nose and flavor. Smooth if light. vulcanmeister (302) - La Grande, Oregon, USA - NOV 26, 2017
From the Winter Pack collection pours a dark brown with a nice long lasting tannish head The Aroma is malt and coffee. The Taste is again some malty sweetness, a bit of coffee, chocolate. The mouthfeel seems a bit thin. It has a lingering bittersweet finish. mbgrayson (810) - Anaconda, Montana, USA - NOV 24, 2017
This was one of the 2017-18 winter variety pack beers. Pours dark brown, with a nice tan head. Aroma of malts and oatmeal. Taste is smooth, rich, and hearty, very drinkable. This is very good oatmeal stout. Thumbs up.
