I enjoyed the pour, nice dark red/brown. I do detect a bit of spice in the aroma, decent head retention.
I didnt find the taste to my liking, malty, not much zing in it.
I expected more after the reviews, but overall not bad. brewshthereen (316) - Oregon, USA - APR 29, 2004
UPDATED: FEB 6, 2005 This with the dopplebock is as good as it gets with Sam Adams. This pours dark and rich. Almost like porter. Toffee and spice at the nose, tasty and nice. Good after flavor. The best in the Holiday sampler pack. Darkover (1538) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 27, 2004
UPDATED: FEB 6, 2006 Dark amber with a beige head. Caramel malt and cinnamon aroma. Flavor of caramel, toffee and cinnamon. Pretty good. Jayson2425 (167) - Box Elder, South Dakota, USA - APR 10, 2004
UPDATED: APR 14, 2004 One of sam adams better beer. Leaves a good after taste. I can only find it on the holidays. dirtyc (173) - Erie, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 4, 2004

A very unique beer. I've only ever seen this one in the Christmas/Winter selection sampler. Deep brown in color, with odors of strong brown sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Finishes smooth, with chocolate, spicy, nutmeg, and more malt and nutmeg flavors. A nice holiday beer. jeffin7 (613) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - MAR 30, 2004
Aroma of chocolate, cinnamon, and nuts. Flavor is a mix of bittersweet chocolate, nuts, coffee, and a slight cherry. Palate is a bit thin. I really love this beer. rhapsouldize (174) - Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 17, 2004
Amber in color with a light tan head. Definite spicy flavoring, possibly cranberry? I couldn't quite pinpoint it, but it didn't really agree with me. Definitely would not buy this beer again. zach8270 (4022) - Henrietta, New York, USA - MAR 11, 2004
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2008 [bottle] Pours a nice dark amber with a decent sized tan head. Very pleasant and inviting spicy aroma. Reminds me of Christmas. Has a nice balance of malt and spice that makes it very easy to drink and has a good smooth finish. Can definitely taste the cinnamon and caramel notes that it describes. UPDATED: DEC 10, 2007 My least favorite of the holiday/spice ales. This one does not produce the right balance of malt body to harness the strong cinnamon and nutmeg flavors that dominate. UPDATE 12/2007: In the bottle at the 2007 Crescent Moon Holiday Beer Tasting. Pronounced diacetyl aroma. Buttery taste. Thin body. Odd synthetic caramel taste. I drop my previous rating from 3.1 to a 2.7!
