COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams is currently in the process of brewing up a German style called “radler.” The name radler translates to “cyclist,” A 50/50 (ish) blend of beer and lemonade. (Like a shandy). Perfect for any summer day, Samuel Adams® Porch Rocker was inspired by traditional Bavarian Radlers that mix beer with German-style lemonade. For our bright and citrusy Radler, we blended a Helles beer with lemon for a fresh-squeezed lemon taste, effervescent sweetness, and slightly tart, refreshing finish. A light malt character and hint of hops balance out this summer brew.

A little thin and the grain doesn’t mix well with the lemon. Still, it is very refreshing and good on a summer’s day. Certainly not Boston’s best but enjoyable all the same.

12 oz bottle. BB month NOV. Pours a medium thick, well retained off white head, over a clear, effervescent light gold (SRM 4) body.......nose is lemon, with hints of malt, minimal hops.....taste is moderately sweet, with lemon, light malt tones, finishing with hints of hops......mouth feel, light body, no alcohol, high carbonation. The base beer is very dominated by the lemon. The result is a light, refreshing, remarkably simple beverage, reminiscent of a soft drink. The base beer recipe could use a re-work. BJCP 5/3/9/4/5

A bit of a revelation for me, as a lager and lime fan. I found this beer extremely refreshing as a seasonal, but will drink it any old time if I can find it. And, no, there’s nothing "faux" about the lemon flavor.

Tan golden, 1 finger head. Smells juicy. lemons and oranges. Tart up front, then lemon juice. fades to a nice pineapple and lemon mayer flavor. nice stuff! Really refreshing. ABV is super hidden. mmmm grassy.

BBD: 10/2017

2015 BJCP Category: 29A Fruit Beer (base style: 4A Munich Helles)

AROMA: Very faux overly sweet lemon scent akin to lemon-flavored soda. No authentic "beer" aroma to speak of. 4/12

APPEARANCE: Clear golden hue; quite bubbly; large white soapy foam mostly evaporates. 2/3

FLAVOR: Lemon flavor dominates palette throughout. Not quite as sweet as the aroma indicates, but certainly a sweet taste. The nuances of the base brew are obscured by the fruit flavoring, though I do detect some clean pale maltiness. There is the faintest touch of spicy hops at the apex, but no bitterness to speak of. The backend is akin to a Sprite or 7-Up soda and seems faux. The tartness is mild and short-lived. Does not really work as a lemonade/lager hybrid. 9/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light body with medium carbonation. Thirst-quenching and quaffable. Though only 4.5% ABV it’s a bit too boring to session. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: While not bad-tasting, it’s just entirely too faux to be considered authentic beer and judged by BJCP specs. This is an FMB or a pre-packaged cocktail. 2/10

TOTAL SCORE: 20/50

Purchased at the Bull Run Tap House. Refreshing. Lemony. Thirst quenching. Sweet. Wouldn't purchase a case but not bad on a hot summer day. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

B. Pours a clear golden color with white head. Not as good as Summer Shandy, but light and refreshing

Ugh. Mediocre lager mixed with bad canned diet lemonade. Didn’t expect a radler from Sam Adams to taste this artificial. Sickly sweet. Smells bearable but it’s a lie. Avoid.

Poured from 12oz bottle into tulip glass, a clear golden amber colour with no foam, just a ring of tiny bubbles. Mass-produced lager plus some lemon bite. Slightly metallic and astringent, but not deeply flawed. No real hop presence. Light body, strong carbonation, citrusy aftertaste. Served cold, it’s definitely refreshing on a hot day.

Pours clear medium gold, light head. Aroma is strong natural lemon. Taste is slightly sweet malt, lemon soda, hops peaking through here and there. Some tartness, but not overwhelming. Light mouthfeel. Very refreshing after a warm bike ride. Does what the style should do.
