On draft at Tim’s Sam Adams tap take over. Bold notes of molasses, cocoa, chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and smoke. I enjoyed the contrast of sweet / bitter / dry. Well done.

Tiny bit of smoke flavor, just enough to notice. Dark black brown, translucent. Milky scent. Bitter coffee and cocoa nibs, but lighter than others. Not bad. Tap

Draft at chaps. Pours pitch black with a medium tan head. The aroma is heavy on roasted malt, a bit of smoke and coffee. The taste is medium bitter, roasted malt, smoked malt, a bit of extra char. This is really good.

Pours black with aroma of roasted malt, smoke, dark chocolate, and coffee. Coffee and roasted malt flavor with some dark chocolate and smoke flavor. Very nice porter.

NikkTwist (3458) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 5, 2015
Draft at Moriartys. Opaque black pour with khaki foam. Lots of dark roasted malt flavors. Burnt hazelnuts. Bitter chocolate. Charcoal. Coffee grounds. Cigarettes. Hints of vinyl, leather jacket and shoe polish. Full body. Spicy black pepper finish feels a bit blunted. Still a solid smoked Porter. Lacking a bit of adventure but impressed that it is not being oversold as Stout.

APPEARANCE - jet black with nougat colored dense foamy head. Beauty!NOSE - Malt scent prevails at first, with a super light smoky scent. Something familiar creeps in, but I couldn’t put my finger on what until it warmed - it’s the scent of lightest smokey goodness. As the tulip warms a bit (before smoke appears) I get more coffee than I did at first. FLAVOR - some coffee stands out at first, and as the beer warms up the complexity unfolds in my mouth on the way to my pot belly. Smokey flavor definitely presents itself, but it is amazingly well balanced. NOTES - really solid porter. One of the few that straddles the line between Porter and stout like a WWII era spy. I?d go on record saying this is my favorite Sam in at least 5 years.

b3shine (9339) - Indiana, USA - JUN 3, 2015
Draft to taster. Looks good; a translucent brownish cola with foamy very light beige head. Smells solid; a nice balance of dark malt, mild roast, and smoke. Tastes like it smells, but roastier. Still nicely balanced though. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and fairly bitter. Enjoyable.

Dark brown, almost black pour. Big tan head. Plenty of lacing. Creamy roasted malt nose. Very toasty taste. Creamy coffee.
