Smell: Ruby smells like toasted bread, with a little, light nuttiness, some dried herb, and a bit of fresh cherry.
Taste: Bready, toasty with some caramel sweetness and modest nutty accents. Fruitiness hinting of sweet cherry. Light English hop character, hints of herb, spice. Sufficiently bitter. Nutty, drying, yet still malty on the soft finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Soft, easy-going mouthfeel.
Overall: Reminiscent of their Irish Red Ale, at least for me.
12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Pours reddish copper, clear with a medium off white head and OK lacing on the glass. Malty, roasty aroma kind of earthy. Taste is sweet but with a nice dry bitter finish. definitely a fall brew; very easy to drink. Liked it... Chudwick (3437) - Taylor Mill, Kentucky, USA - AUG 9, 2013
12oz bottle - pours brown/amber with khaki head and decent lacing. Nose is bread and floral hops. flavor adds spices, pepper, nuts, and coffee. sweet with light hop kick. Autumnal for sure! dwcash159 (8) - Bedford, Texas, USA - AUG 5, 2013 does not count
This Sam Adams follows the usual path of quality and great beer. I found the taste of this beer to be very light and pleasant to drink. The beer had a balanced and light head. The bitterness of the brew was a bit fruity which highlighted the grains. This is a great beer to enjoy on an warm afternoon. I’d recommend pairing it with a nice steak and potatoes.

Trade with Aurelius - thanks! Dark tea colored copper with a thin off white head that clings to the edge of the glass. Aroma has some light toffee accents, some earthy potting soil accents. Flavor has a hint of licorice, some toffee, a touch of coffee in the back end and just a wee bit of chocolate. Mouthfeel has a nice thickness to it, DCLawyer (2931) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - AUG 4, 2013
Bottle->SA. Dark copper with medium offwhite head. A: nuts, roasted malt, caramel. T: nuts, sweet and toasty malts. Fairly smooth. OK. Aurelius (5659) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - AUG 3, 2013
Sweetish, toasty/cereal malt aroma. Standard Sam longneck, OK label; Clear, darkish brown-bronze beer with a very thin, nearly white head. My first reaction is that this is a satisfying mouthfull - lightly sweet but mostly dry, good bittering, toasted crackers. There was a little off/sullphury undertone at times, but it was a minor flaw. Frothy/mouthy. Long, toasted aftertaste. Drinkable - I could certainly mow through a six pack of these - it’s in the marzen and session orbit, so well-calculated for a fall mixpack. Wal Mart, Tallahassee, part of the Fall 2013 mixpack. fidelis83 (2535) - Clinton, Iowa, USA - AUG 2, 2013
Clear old copper pour with a 2 finger, lumpy, beige head. Aroma of toasted crusty bread, caramel, light toffee, light nutty notes, and a hint of spicy, earthy and citrus hops. Flavor is toast, light nutty notes, roasted squash seeds (gotta be the first time I’ve used that one), hot (fusel?) oily notes, booziness, planty and spicy hops. Light to medium body with an oily, but dry feel throughout and pretty strong, sharp and blanketing carbonation. This one really didn’t do much for me, not terrible, but too hot and sloppy, not in a good way. wlajwl (7211) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - AUG 1, 2013
Aroma is yeast, dark fruit and earthy/grainy malts. The flavor is dark fruit/raspberries, malts and a tart finish. Not really the most exciting style but this was a good example of the style.
