2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Batch 2. Huge head, but that prob has more to do with the bottle shape as it goes away quickly, though nice lacing. Aroma is allllll malt. Buckets of it. Doesn’t smell like an IPA (cites as a flaw). Taste matches aroma. This is not an IPA. Really sweet with a present, yet absent hop flavor. Would like to see the hop schedule doubled for the label description (and fermented out another 2%). Disappointing.
Rustic dark amber color. Citrusy and hoppy aroma with pine, grapefruit, and roasted malt flavors. One of the best beers I’ve had from Sam Adams. JPDIPSO (6257) - Wauwatosa, USA - NOV 30, 2016
Pours a brown color, that when held to the light has an umber hue. Moderate sized head that is dark beige in color. Fresh raw malt, typical of a red ale, along with fresh grassy to light citric hops in the aromas. Sharp malt and hops flavors thrash about. Basically what I would expect from a hopped up red ale. I like it but it certainly isn’t one I would find myself drinking a lot of. 9/11

bottle @ Liquor Barn / Lexington KY --- Nice aroma of caramel malt and a little fruit. Hazy amber brown color, heavy beige head that never gets out of the way, clouds of lace. Taste is robust caramel malt that has a little fruit, riding medium fizz to a finish that mixes malt and hops. Much more understated hops than I anticipated, but still a remarkable brew. beerplace (1805) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 21, 2016
355ml bottle. Pours a clear amber with a tan head. Aroma is dark frits, caramel, some hops. Taste is dark fruits, roasted malt and piney hops bitterness. Roasted malt and hoppy bitterness aftertaste. oldrtybastrd (5003) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - APR 25, 2016
Pours a deep dark orangish amber color. Aromas of big hop action, sweet malts, and more hops. Flavor has some bready malty tastes with nice grapefruit and floral hop taste

Deep Ruby color with a foamy tan head. As an IPA, you’d expect that pine/citrus hops would be the stars of the show, but they’re understudy to the rich lightly roasted malts. I’d swear this was a mild Stout or Porter by the scent. Sweet, doughy, yes, some toffee and lightly burnt toast with mild earthy hops giving a bitter follow. Has a smooth feel with light carbonation, I’d never guess this was an IPA in a blind tasting. Another solid offering from Boston Brewing! dlihcsnatas (763) - Temple, Texas, USA - MAR 24, 2016
Very dark amber brew with a tan head and smells of toffee. Taste is up front with toffee but then there is the citrus and herbal flavors that mess that up. Nope not a fan. Not sure why the fad right now is to take something that is NOT an IPA and try to make it one. Aggiebob (1213) - Huntsville, Alabama, USA - FEB 7, 2016
Bottle. Clear red ale with beige head and lacing. The aroma was roasted malt and some citrus. Flavor was grapefruit, toffee, caramel and a light pine. The finish was slightly bitter. Troupis (261) - - JAN 29, 2016
I appreciate that it's a unique IPA and has a unique hop with an intentional malt. However, it's just not that tasty/drinkable even though taste-filled.
In a bottle in SoCal.

A weirdly malty IPA, lots of grapefruit in the nose and something else I couldn’t quite pick out, very familiar and nostalgic. Good beer.
