3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Poured a beautiful dark brown liquid with a thick frothy head which eventually retreated. Aroma is fair with an initial aroma of lightly roasted malts that have a background scent of milk chocolate and a whiff of some unknown spice. The closest smell I can remember that was similar to this is the smell of freshly dried Ironlak spray paint. The drink attracts my intention from the beginning with a soft chocolate malt base while a dash of spice becomes apparent in the finish and reminds me sort of some rich home made mole sauce. Well balanced throughout the session but there is a strange astringent aftertaste in the finish.
Bottle at RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours a dark brown with medium beige head. The aroma is spice, cocoa, roast. Medium body, dark chocolate, cinnamon, not much chili in aroma/taste, light booze finish, decent. hotstuff (5158) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - JAN 16, 2016
Rated on 8-06-2015 (Batch No. 1) This beer’s appearance is a medium sized tan head with a short retention, mostly opaque brown body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma presents roasted, chocolate and earthy. The flavor is chocolate, malt, and a little bit of hotness or spice. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. There is not much flavor to this beer and it is not a beer that I have any interest in drinking again. tysongillmore (362) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 21, 2015
A little too close to the sweet side. Not a sign of chili. Overall, not bad.

Pours opaque brown-black with nice carbonation and light head. Deep, earthy nose. Chocolate toffee taste with a bit of spice. Spicy aftertaste. Not bad for after a day’s work. thedm (6184) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - AUG 6, 2015
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy with a frothy top light brown colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque dark black brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty. The off-tasting mouth feel was tingly at the start with a mediumly tingly finish with a lingering malty aftertaste. The weird flavor contained notes of roasted malt licorice and malt. Not one that I would drink again.

Tailspin ale fest. Has a nice chili flavor and looks great. Only lacking in the aroma. jbruner (4745) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - JAN 31, 2015
Pours a deep brownish black from the bottle with thin tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma of fruity yeast, hints of chocolate, and cinnamon spice. Taste is more toward chocolate and spice, not chili to me, but still something there, nice balance, nothing over the top. Alcohol is well hidden, soft carbonation, not too bad. Bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, cinnamon, caramel, and peppers. Flavor of chocolate, toffee, cocoa, cinnamon, earthiness and had a spicy chili backbone. jgb9348 (6266) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - JAN 10, 2015
Deep dark brown coloured body with a hint of ruby and violet tints when held up to the light, all with a rich, thick three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of chocolate, chiles (no surprise there), alcohol, metal and some rich roasted malt. Full-bodied; Strong rich roasted malt flavour with some nuts, earth, caramel, toffee and heat from the chiles noticeable, all with a sort of oaky, dry finish showing some alcohol and sweetness. Aftertaste shows a subtle and smooth complexity with spices, heat, alcohol, malt and the chocolate and coffee sweetness/bitterness that holds a nice complexity. Overall, a surprisingly nice beer with a ton of flavour, no overt heat or chiles, but a well-balanced and well-crafted beer - definitely worth trying if you can get it and it’s chilly outside! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 17-October-2014 for US$30,99/case (24-pack) sampled at home in Washington on 09-January-2015 in celebration of Boston being chosen as the US host city for the Olympic BID - good luck Boston - bring the Olympics back to the US of A. Pours beautiful dark brown with a large light tan head. Aroma wheaty and spicy in a dark kinda way with a hint of cinnamon. Taste is smooth dark chocolatey malts blended perfectly with cinnamon throughout the flavor profile. At the very end there is faint chili pepper spice. Very easy to drink bock overall.
