It is better than the Amber from Abita, which is also a Vienna. I would like a little less hops in the end, but I did enjoy the less sweetness than would be expected with a Marzen/Fest beer. The main problem with this beer is that all Sam Adams have a similar taste, must be the water. If this was sold in Six packs, I would buy it. UPDATED: DEC 10, 2004 Inital flavor was sort of yeasty.. settled into a sweet maltiness. Pleasent, sweet smelling aroma. It really started to grow on me.. if I had a whole sixer insted of only two that came in the variety pack, it might have earned a higher score. Turtboy (120) - Lucasville, Ohio, USA - DEC 23, 2002
Sam Adams is good, we know that. Why is it they have to keep bottling Sammy in different bottles....it all taste the same!! booyaatribe (450) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 22, 2002
Blah. There is a lack of depth to all the flavors. It's actually quite impressive how Sam Adams pulls this off with every beer they brew. Rib Eye (148) - USA - DEC 18, 2002
Not a great example of the style. Very Sam Adamsy in that it's flavors are all muted. The finish, as with everything I've had from them lately, is yeasty and stale.

I love Vienna Styles and for an American beer, I thought this was very tasty, and will buy as much as I can afford. DEbeer (192) - West Virginia, USA - DEC 17, 2002
I hate vienna style, but I am partially impressed with this one. I had it last of the pack, though, so maybe it would've tasted different if it were first of the night. Perdue46 (68) - USA - DEC 13, 2002
Great malt flavor overall very good. The beer finished very well........... jazz88 (2683) - San Francisco, California, USA - DEC 11, 2002
Bottle. Some bready malts and caramels make this beer slightly interesting. ultraspank (867) - Alverca, Lisboa, PORTUGAL - DEC 10, 2002
Nose of caramel, rich roasted and toasted malt, and a hint of perfume and flowers. Pours from the bottle a clear medium ruby amber. The thick and tight rocky sandy head is mostly lasting with good lacing. The flavor starts sweet and malty. The lightly acidic brew finishes sweet and warm. The medium creamy and soft body finishes very smooth and clean. Another winner from Boston Beer.
