COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

Pours a clear amber with a thin head that dissipates. Aromas of bread, caramel malts, and spice. Taste is rather malty with some spice lingering, mainly ginger and the cinnamon is also detectable. Not getting much citrus as the label indicates as the roasted malts really dominate here. Decent seasonal offering and a beer worthy of sessions.

Basic winter lager. Smooth but unoriginal lager provides a basic but unoffensive brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33 cl bottle, Ann Arbor, MI. Caramel colour and aroma. Sweet, slightly metallic flavour. Not overly complex.

Bottle from systembolaget, Östersund. Not so sure about this one and leads off the Nils Oscar other winter lager hanging about. It has some spices added (cinnamon etc) which sure gives it a hint of festivity but it feels disjointed. Overall a bit soapy.

(12oz bottle from winter mix pack) AROMA: light malt nose, biscuit, some spice APPEARANCE: nice reddish amber color, clear, touch off-white oily foam TASTE: bran, slight roasted grain, dried fruit, ginger, touch of other spices and fall/leaves PALATE: crisp, a tad biting upfront, medium-light body, a little earthiness OVERALL: a slightly lighter version of their boston lager with a bit of fall spiciness. Good looking beer, not too strong or flavorful .... so an easy drink with a bit of body and robustness.

I generally stay away from mass production beers, but look forward to this affordable, consistent holiday release from Sam Adams. The 12 oz. Bottle pours brown-gold with fragrant and respectful head that hangs around through first few swallows. Typical holiday nose with toasty caramel-clove overtones and a rather neutral palate. Finish has warm holiday notes that you expect but at a well balanced 5.6 ABV it is very drinkable on winter nights. One of the few dark beers my girlfriend likes.

I was not a huge fan of this, I could see why it's a winter ale, like many Samuel Adams brews it has a heavy body and makes it automatically a swig beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the Winter Collection, pours a bold copper with a nice lasting head. The aroma brings forth carmel, spice, and yeast. The flavor brings the spices and orange to the forefront along with a bit of chocolate and malt. The mouthfeel is medium. The finish hints of oranges, spices, and some yeast with a dash of alcohol warming but tapers off quickly.

Draft. Pours a nice caramel with a finger of khaki head that leaves nice rings and lacing. Aroma has notes of spice, and caramel. Taste has notes of caramel, toffee, spices, citrus, and a drawn out ending. Medium body and carbonation. Pretty clean on the mouth.
