COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

Bottle. Decent but nothing special. Pours a light brown with a thin white head. Mildly malty aroma. Flavor has a some sweet malt and light spice. Light to medium in body with low carbonation. Clean finish.

Clear copper with a lasting beige head. Aroma is sweet, dried fruit, caramel, malty and spicy. Flavor is rather sweet and fairly bitter. Soft finish. A very positive surprise as I thought I was opening just another lager. 211210

Bronzy mid brown colour. Some malt in the aroma, but butterscotch diacetyl too. The flavour is also malty with a distinct autumnal character. Slight sour bite on the finish. I must admit I didn’t pick up that this is a wheat beer until I came to post the rating. Not the most distinguished of beer. Still, it was nice to get the opportunity to pick up a few rates at the airport waiting for the aircraft home. Tap at the Sam Adams bar, Dulles Airport.

Beautiful amber color. Quite good, mainly characterized by the caramel, with a more clear hoppy note in the aroma and a bold final, but a bit too metallic.

12 oz. bottle, pours a hazy dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of Xmas spices (cinnamon, nutmeg). Flavour of Xmas spices as on the nose, buttery malts and bread. Decent, but nothing interesting.

rlgk (18844) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 24, 2003
Bronze/amber color, nice off-white head. Quite carbonated. Has a sweet and bready aroma with some bread in it. Flavor brings some toffee, sweet, but turns into some bitterness.

Oakes (18794) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 2, 2000
UPDATED: NOV 21, 2008 Medium amber-brown colour. Thin head. Aroma is bland caramel. Tastes like diacetyl, astringent bark and roots, some caramel. Finishes with an unpleasant diacetyl slickness. This 2008 version is pretty gross.

Old rating: Dark amber; aroma shows brown sugar, spice (ginger, orange peel), sweet earthy malt. Earthy, caramelly malts. Good chewy character. Funny that the brewer kept insisting this was a traditional wheat bock, when it is not made with a weizen yeast, and it is spiced with cinnamon, ginger and orange peel! 6-3-6-3-12 = 3.0
