3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice amber color with a hint of red, very pleasant carbonation from the bottle as it is poured. The taste is initially sweet, a bit heavy on the palate, but it softens to spice and hops, and stays there til the end. There is a lot of malt in this for a domestic brew, and it does manage to come through in the taste. Overall, I really like this one, and its become one of my wifes favorites. It would get an even higher score if there were something really special in the taste, like a strong taste of spice or chocolate or caramel or whatever, but there isnt. Its sweet (even a bit sticky), malty, with qualities from several types of ale. Thats a good thing, but it has no real identity of its own. Still, for something I can pick up at any neighborhood grocery store, this is a great find!
From old tasting notes. Reddish brown color with a huge beige head. Delicious spicy nutmeg aroma. Zesty toasted malt flavor with hints of cocoa and cinnamon. Good hop flavor. Dry finish and aftertaste. Ferris (15288) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 2, 2017

Got this on sale. Not overly bitter or spicy. Nice aroma but OK taste. May drink again only if I don’t have a better option. ChrisOfstad (90) - Hamar, NORWAY - MAR 25, 2017

Tap sample at beerbistro. Coppery orange, translucent, smallish beige head. Nose of rather subdued malts and spiciness, not what I was expecting. Tastes more Christmasy but the watery mouthfeel ruins my overall impression. Cinnamon and cuminseed (which isn’t there...) flavour perhaps most dominant, a tiny hint of ginger. I wouldnt consider this a very good beer, nor a Bock, as it was labelled in the menu. Sub-par yet in itself not disastrous nor totally undrinkable... Wouldn’t want a whole bottle though! Clear dark caramel colour, light tan head. Spicy aroma, full of cinnamon, ginger, orange, green herbs and hops. Mild sweet taste, hints of caramel, ginger, hops and yeast. Light body, bitter aftertaste, fizzy carbonation. Quite good and refreshing. Sarlacc83 (2287) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 26, 2017
A: Dark caramel that’s near to red. Creme color head.
N: Toffee, peppercorn, fall leaves, earth, substantial grapefruit, but not in a pleasant way, cracker, some green apple, cherry, and bark.
T: Sweet, bitter, and slightly lactic.
M: Medium light body, no alcohol, crisp carbonation.
O: It’s OK. Nothing to write home about and certainly not in the same zip code as Jubel. unclefrito62 (277) - Stow, Ohio, USA - JAN 8, 2017
