335 ml. bottle. Pours an opaque black clour, with a tan head that lasts forever and leaves a ring all around the glass. Smell is impressive: chocolate is predominant, but theres caramel, dark fruits, port wine, vanilla, liquorice, and ome coffee. Taste is more or less the same, chocolate everywhere, with coffeemore noticeable than in the nose, caramel, dark fruits and vanilla. The only that doesnt do it justice, IMO is the medium body and thin palate. Anyway, a great beer.

Resampled since 2010. Here 33cl bb12/2017, Maruhn. - Had this down as a suave and chocolatey mild ImpStout classic, but upon resampling found after a good while was astonished to smell and taste: damp vegemite yeasts covering salty liquorice and dried plum and date jam. Mineral, briney even among the thin-spread barley roast. Little cocoa powder. A wild, near barnyardy (as in animal husbandry), a tart musk. Leathery throughout, a well worn jacket nibbled on for odd comfort. Odd what those square open fermenters can do in Old European recipes...Honestly hard to finish this time around. Will revisit.

550mp bottle from the Firefly Cambie. Pours an almost black with a dark beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, dry, dark fruits, slightly vinous. Taste is very smooth, pretty similar to aroma. Dark chocolate and roasted malt dry aftertaste. Very good.

33cl bottle. Clear, dark brown pour with a tall tan head that gives way to a thin lacing. Notes of roasted malts, light bitter cherries, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, smoke, a bit of salt, some hops. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. A really good old-school imperial stout.

Botella comprada en Liquidos (Zaragoza). Estilo Imperial Stout britnico "de libro", una de las mejores cervezas del estilo. Color negro, corona beige. Aromas a torrefactos, chocolates y ahumados. Se aprecia cierto dulzor. Cerveza equilibrada, de sabor marcado por el caf, chocolate, humo, madera. Final ligeramente amargo.

Youre doing yourself a disservice if you dont try this beer. Chocolate, malty and just the slightest amount of bitterness. Lucky this comes in a 4-pack because if was a 12-pack I would have drank every bottle.

A toasty, chocolate offering residing beneath a light brown head. The head dissipated quickly however. A round and smooth presentation with a bit of bitterness on the finish. Not as complete as Id hoped, but a long finish and drinks easily enough. Ive never been disappointed in a Sam Smiths, but Im rarely blown away either. They seem to all be easily drinkable.

Priced right at the nearby grocery so why not. Appearance is inline for an imperial stout, nice and dark. It gives a fantastic light brown head that unfortunately dissipated fairly quickly. The nose is intriguing, licorice to me with a note of dark fruit. The taste is lesser. The carbonation is gone so no mouthfeel from that. Milk chocolate with a firm maltiness and dough. A slight hop finish with a some bitterness to complete it all. Okay but I prefer many others.

Personal blind tasting, 4th out of 4.
Almost definitely Sam Smith. Fruity, almost appley, not roasty. Yeah, apple all over and light but no fun to drink. Every few years I try to return to this beer but I always get some very poor beer. Not sure if I just get old bottles but enough is enough.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2016 Butelka 330ml. Czarny kolor. Piana bezowa lekko kremowa. W zapachu duzo sliwki rodzynek i czarnej porzeczki ,wszystko podparte solidna dawka kawy i czekolady. W smaku slodkawe o owocowej nucie potem pojawia sie kawowo-czekoladowa goryczka. Karmel i lukrecja w tle. Niska karbonacja i delikatna tekstura sprawia ze jest bardzo pijalne. Moje niestety zostalo podane zbyt zimne....
