For someone weaned on Guinness, this beer was a revelation. Rich and powerful, but not too heavy. I had it in the humid Massachusetts summer and it's fantastic taste belied the folk wisdom thast stouts bare only for the winter. This is a special beer.

From Dec 2005 Poured from bottle(room temp) a beautiful pitch black with a huge brown head. The smell is of sweet malt and chocolate and is very nice albeit fairly faint. The taste is a wonderful blend of sweet roasted malt and chocolate with a nice bite from the hops and just a touch of the licorice note that is found in most of the Samuel Smith products I've tried. This is a superb Imperial Stout and at just 7% abv, you can actually kick back more than one and not have your butt kicked. ;^) I thoroughly recommend this beer!

Farbe: schwarz Schaum: fein sämig, hellbraun Nase: typ. Verbrannt, v.a. kola kaffee bitter Geschmack: erst erfreulich frisch für ein Stout, bitter, hinten direkt rauchig. Eher leichrt im Mund. Abgang dann holziger, Malz, weicher, dann kommt der Kaffee deutlicher. Zurück bleibt rauchmalz.ziemlich gut, komplex, sehr rauchig.

I love this beer. It's like a bleak October evening in Estonia. Very full-bodied and has the perfect combination of Imperial Stout tastes. A classic! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black with small tan head which quickly goes but clings to the edge of the glass on the way down. Aroma is rich and roasty with liquorice, dark chocolate and a touch of soy. Taste is complex and full bodied and leaves a decent lingering finish. A great example of the style!

Creamy. A strong roots of licorice. Chocolate notes. Sorry, I had to upload these old ratings. They were for me, not for uploading. And also I need 75 characters, hence this sentence. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
