GoddamnNoise (141) - Pontevedra, SPAIN - JUN 24, 2017
355 ml. bottle @ Home. Aroma: roasted coffee grains, dark bitter chocolate, roasted malts. Hints of dried fruits (prunes, raisins), maybe licorice, wine, sherry, and cocoa. Appearance: very dark brown color, almost black. Brown and quite creamy head with high thickness, made of mainly small bubbles. High retention. No Brussels’ lacing. Too dark, but it seems it has no hazyness. Taste: medium to high sweetness, low bitterness, no sourness. Flavors of dark coffee, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, prunes, raisins. No hints of alcohol in flavor. The alcohol’s warming effect is noticeable. Balance is on the malt sweetness, but the dark chocolate acts as a counterpart. Palate: medium to full body, silky to creamy texture, flat carbonation, not very long and medium dry finish of roasted coffee grains, roasted barley, roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits (prunes, raisins). The alcohol level is not as high as in another Imperial Stouts and it’s for the good. Finish is not as dry as in many other Imperial Stouts, alcohol is not as high either. Overall: quite good appearance. Nice aromas and flavors: dark chocolate, roasted coffee grains, prunes, raisins. Very pleasant. Very good Imperial Stout. I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I’d drink it again.

Pours an almost black with a medium, thick, tan head. The aroma is potent. I find it to be very earthy and heavy in licorice, along with chocolate, vanilla, and nuts. You can easily tell its not American, as its extremely rare to find an American Imperial Stout that smells like this. Slightly sweet in the taste, and with a very mild bitterness. Earthy and roasted malts seem to be the prominent impressions, though there is a healthy chocolate presence as well. Its pretty nutty, vanilla flavoring is weaker though noticeable, and there are hints of alcohol. Weak chocolate aftertaste. The texture is thin, which I find a bit odd for one that calls itself an Imperial Stout. Medium bodied and with flat carbonation. This might not be among my favorites in this style, but its still enjoyable.

At kalde denne en imperial stout gør at man bliver en anelse skuffet. Den smager fantastisk men har ikke den fylde og volumen en "rigtig" imperial stout skal have. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Copenhagen 21/52017. 35,5 cl bottle from Høkeren. A lot of Gold and Silver Medals on the label to ensure me that this Imperial Stout is of the finest quality. As these hails from 1896 to 1930 I am not sure I am convinced. Pours very dark opaque dark brown small off-white head. Settles as thin layer foam covering the surface of the beer. Aroma is strong sweet and boozy. Cocoa, bitter chocolate, sherry and roasted dark malts. Soft carbonation and surprisingly thin palate. Flavor is quite well balanced between syrupy sweetness and bitter chocolate. Aftertaste is fairly short and bitter sweet. A little thin for an Imperial Stout - but nicely balanced and easy to drink.

W zapachu coś niezidentyfikowanego i słodkiego.

Carbonazione bassa e corpo medio.
