COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water (the original well sunk in 1758 is still in use), best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast and aromatic hops. Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown colour and nutty flavour derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt. Brown ales are a specialty of northern England. Fermented in ’stone Yorkshire squares’.

A very good beer. I liked everything about this beer and can’t say anything bad. Full flavored. Nice head. Nice color. And not heavy. Just a nice ale with a bit of burnt malty bitterness.

Pours a clear, dark amber with a medium, off white head. The aroma is a heavy balance of nuts, earthy malts, and floral hops with some weaker bread and vanilla. The taste is a little sweet and dry and unfortunately, kind of weak. Having both toasted and earthy malts, its big on nuts and toffee. Minor licorice and raisin are found as well. Easy toffee aftertaste lingers. Medium bodied, thin in texture, adn average in carbonation. Not bad really. Just not all that special.

Bomber into a pint. Pours a clear dark brown, with a medium khaki head that lasts, leaving good lacing. Nose is dark malt and nuts. Taste follows, with a long finish and medium mouth feel. Moderately bitter, not at all astringent. Classic British brown. Good stuff, easy drinking.

Nice rich smells of brown bread. Pours a clear mahogany brown with a big buff head that dissipates to a steady mix of tiny and medium sized bubbles. Lots of lacing. Nice round tastes of pumpernickel and pecans with a sweet short finish. Medium carbonation. These guys are in the business of defining british beer categories - very nice brown.

Deep, almost opaque brown pour with beige, dense, persistent foam. Toasty malts in the nose with a little coarseness. Medium body, smooth texture, light fizz and a clean finish. The taste is rich caramel malt with a little grassy touch. A touch of chocolate as it warms up. Rich on the tongue and a good cold weather beer. A benchmark example
