COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water (the original well sunk in 1758 is still in use), best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast and aromatic hops. Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown colour and nutty flavour derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt. Brown ales are a specialty of northern England. Fermented in ’stone Yorkshire squares’.

Pours a clear amber with a big, creamy, light tan head that dissipates slowly into a cap and leaves some nice lacing. Strong aromas of caramel, butterscotch, toffee, and some nuttiness. Bold malt flavors, nice creamy body. Long sweet, toffee like finish. Solid brown ale, the finish brings it down a tad bit for me.

From bottle at Cardinal with HDI 14.02.18. Clear dark copper. Beige head and lacing. Aroma and taste of caramelized malt, dried berries and moderate hop bitterness. Good quaffability!

Moderate biscuity aroma and high malty-sweet caramel flavor with robust toastiness that yields gracefully to a moderately dry finish.... Medium bodied beer with moderately-high carbonation which adds to an initial body and bloom to the mouthfeel. First English Brown Ale I've had - the bar has been set high, I think.

Bottle at The Princess Louise, Holborn. Pours clear pale to mid brown with a lasting slightly creamy off-white head. Aroma of toffee, nut, roasted malt and dried fruits. Medium sweetness, light to moderate bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, average carbonation. Enjoyable.

Brun med fint skum. Herlig blanding av nøtter og flytende karamellsaus i duft og smak. Smooth, litt tykk munnfølels.

Undated imperial pint > pint glass A: Clear mahogany or tea color with a short tan head that falls to a stubborn film. S: Sweet chocolate, a little stone fruit or fig, dark bread and faint alcohol. T: Unsweetened Chocolate and bitter hops blend nicely with bitterness lingering. A hint of tart cherry and hazelnut. M: Light and crisply carbonated. Slight resin on an otherwise fairly dry finish. O: Haven't had this in years and it's nice to revisit. Old standby still recommended.
